Welcome to Sunshine Snail Mail!
Sending cards to kids (and sometimes adults) who could use a smile.
Here are some answers to frequently asked questions:
FOR CARD SENDERS
~Anyone can send a card. You do not have to sign up to send cards.
~You are not required to send cards to everyone on the page.
~Addresses are found by scrolling down the page and also in the photo albums.
~You can send gifts too if you'd like. Stickers, temporary tattoos, and other small things are fun to put inside the cards. Some people send packages, blankets, knitted hats, etc. This is ok.
~Sign your name on the card and then "Sunshine Snail Mail" or "SSM" so the family knows where the mail is coming from.
~Please keep the notes light. Do not talk about their illness, following their stories on facebook etc.. Some of the kids have not been told they have "cancer", some are not aware of their "facebook pages" and some are too young to understand. A simple "Sending love and sunshine" or something like that is perfect.
~Please DO NOT SEND GET WELL CARDS. There are many reasons for this. If you need an explanation, please send a message to the page.
~We always try to include the siblings so please send them cards/gifts too if you can. You don't have to send them all the same thing but please try to send the siblings something so they don't feel left out.
~Please do not pressure families for photos of their children with your mail. If they have photos they will send them to us and we will share them here.
~Please do not contact families asking them if they got your mail. This can become stressful especially if the family is receiving a lot of mail or is out of town for treatments, etc.
FOR KIDS WANTING TO RECEIVE CARDS
~Please send a message to this page if you would like your child to receive mail.
~We need name and age of child, names and ages of siblings if they want mail too, photos, permission to use photos, mailing address (PO box or business address preferred) and facebook page link if you have one.... show more We can also post links to caringbridge, gofundme or other web sites along with the mail request.
~The more specific and to the point the first message is, the quicker your child will be added to the page. (name, age, address, permission to use photos, links, "BRIEF" explanation of what's going on, and 2 or 3 things your child likes)
~This is a public page so the information you give us (address etc.) will be shown on the page and might be shared throughout facebook on other pages.
~Our main focus is on childhood cancer and other life threatening illnesses including DIPG and brain cancer and siblings affected by childhood cancer.
~Sometimes we have special holiday sign ups. We will post an announcement when this is available.
~For birthdays we need a 2-4 week notice to post special announcements for birthday cards.
If you like the idea of this group and want to support it but can't send out cards yourself, here are some ways you can help. We can always use postage stamps and other items such as cards, stickers, small toys, envelopes or funds to purchase these items. We would be more than happy to use any of your donations for our mailings. Our goal is to bring as many smiles to as many children as possible.
