I would like to try starting one of my mini mares as a therapy pony. She's amazingly gentle and brave, and I think she'd excel at it. Does anyone know of where a good place to start would be to get the ball rolling?
Barbara S. replied:
Yes, I am a registered therapy team with my mini, Rosie. Contact PetPartners.org. They are a national organization for therapy animals. Rosie and I went through their program, and it was wonderful. They have a book that will tell you all of the skills that you and your mini are required to know in becoming registered.
I am interested in getting my cat pet therapy certified. He has met all criteria on the checklist. I see that in my state there is only 1 evaluation in the next 4 months and that is this Saturday. We have not taken the online/ in person course yet. I just don't know what steps we should take- should we hurry and do everything and be evaluated Saturday? Thanks for any help :D
Pet P. replied:
Hi Amy; The course needs to be completed before the Team Evaluation. You shouldn't be in too much of a hurry, as there is a lot of information to absorb. We recommend that you take the workshop in-person, if at all possible. If you don't see a scheduled class or evaluation on our online calendar, you could try contacting licensed instructors and evaluators in your area through this directory: www.petpartners.org/directory. And if you still have difficulty, please call our headquarters office at 425-679-5500. Best of luck!
