We are new transplants from the UK and I am trying to get my head around what we need in terms of healthcare 101 - as a first point of contact, do we need a family doctor or a specialist children's doctor for the children and a generalist for the adults? And... can anyone recommend a good provider in the local area? The list of the ones our insurance covers is huge and I don't know where to start!

  Hi Zara, Our kids see Dr. Ann McDermott at Swedish and absolutely love her. She is in a practice with three women who are all excellent. Their number is 773-878-0825. I am planning on using her as my doctor as well as I haven't been happy with the one I am currently using. I thought Dr. McD was just pediatrics, but recently found out the practice is actually a Family Practice (or 'surgery' as we Brits call it). I'll be so happy to have us all being seen by one doc.
