About us

Hey there, I'm Shelby. I am a mother of two awesome kiddos; lover of many things including photography, camping, and singing karaoke. The main question I'm sure you have is, "Why weddings, and how did you get started?" Well, to be completely honest, if you had told me 3 years ago that I was going to be a full-time, professional photographer, I would have thought you were joking. But as it turns out, I've had a strong relationship with cameras since I was 10 years old. Did I start out with an expensive, state-of-the-art camera? Nope. I started on a cheap Kodak film camera. But I knew way back then, that I would at the very least love taking photos for the rest of my life. As my knowledge grew over the years, I became more and more aware of photography as an art form. I was always looking for those unique angles. If I was going to take a picture of a soda can, it was going to be the most quirky shot of a soda can you'd ever seen.

When I got my hands on my very first DSLR about 3 years ago, I was truly amazed at the quality of the photos I could suddenly produce. I took to the local animal shelter, volunteering my time to take photos of those cute animals who needed homes. It wasn't long before the shelter suddenly got much more attention on their Facebook page. LOTS more. One morning, I woke up to find that one of my photos had been shared over a THOUSAND times! A woman from TEXAS drove all the way to Hopkinsville, Kentucky to adopt that adorable puppy she saw on Facebook. I was amazed. And very proud. My efforts had gotten lots of deserving animals new homes.

Well, where do the weddings come in?
My first wedding came to me by chance. A friend of a friend had a wedding photographer bail on her at the last minute, and called upon me for help. I was more than happy to help her, but had no hands-on experience in photographing a wedding. I charged her a very minimal fee and off I went. That night, when I got home, I was completely overwhelmed. "This is inSANE! HOW do... show more
photographers do this on a daily basis?!", I thought. I was sore and exhausted.

Something about weddings grew on me, after photographing another friend's wedding. The people I met were amazing, the bride and groom loved their photos, and more and more people became familiar with my name. But the thing that struck an important chord with me, was getting to share such special emotions with (almost) complete strangers. There is something about love that forms a special bond with everyone at the special ceremony. Everyone in the room suddenly feels this amazing connection that two wonderful people have chosen to share with the world.

Weddings are very special to me, but I also love photographing almost any genuine moment that occurs. I briefly worked for the local newspaper in our area as a photojournalist. This taught me to seek out the split-second moments that were most important, for any given event. I learned a lot from that job, even if I did end up leaving it. I was grateful for having the experience, but the hours were not something I was willing to endure. My family came first.

So...in order to wrap up this insanely long intro, I'd like you to know that if you want someone who is in love with their profession, doesn't charge outrageous prices, and will treat you with the upmost respect, I am your photographer.
