About us

Each lesson taught will include the following elements, usually in this order :

Introduction : An introduction to Yoga along with its benefits will be given

Composure : This is the time where students learn to rest their minds of worries and troubles that the day has brought, sitting or lying in a comfortable position we often use a visual image to help us relax.

Limbering : We begin to warm the muscles by completing some gentle curling and stretching, preparing the body for the Yoga Asanas (postures) that will follow

Main Class : During this part of the class a selection of smooth flowing Asanas (postures) are performed. These are taught through demonstration and vocal instruction. The postures will be done at a flowing pace allowing students time to rest and recover from the more strenuous ones. A watchful eye is kept on students and if anyone finds a posture too difficult or would prefer an alternative due to physical restrictions the teacher will advise a suitable alternative or posture modification.

Students are encouraged to stay relaxed and to breathe correctly through the class, correct breathing is an essential factor of Yoga practice and will be taught and encouraged at all times. During the term alternative Asanas will be introduced for variety whilst perfection of some of the more challenging Asanas will continue throughout the term to encourage improved flexibility.

Breathing (Pranayama) exercises: A selection of breathing exercises may be introduced before the final relaxation to improve lung capacity and to learn good breathing techniques

Relaxation : The class is drawn to a close spending time once more on relaxation, using visual images and music to assist in complete release. Before the final relaxation you will be given time to put on warm clothing, socks and/or use a blanket to help maintain warmth and comfort during the relaxation practice.

Points to note:

Ideally you should avoid eating a large meal before a class , leaving at least 3 hours after... show more
a full meal (2 hours after a snack). It is also a good idea to empty your bladder before we start.

You will be asked to complete a Student questionnaire when you first join the class. If anything relating to your health or medication changes through the term please advise the teacher of the change before the start of the session.

When you arrive please find yourself a space on the floor for you and your mat. Ensure you allow space to fully stretch your arms out to the side without bumping your neighbour and make sure you can see the teacher. Settle yourself down into a comfortable relaxing position (lying or sitting) ready for the initial composure session.

Please wear loose and comfortable clothes and always have bare feet for the practice to ensure you don’t slip. Socks and warm clothing/ blankets can be put on for the final relaxation to help you stay warm.
If you have a yoga mat and blanket please bring them along. I have a selection of mats, blankets, straps and blocks available to borrow, just help yourself if you want to borrow anything during the class

Please remember that Yoga is not competitive, everyone is an individual with areas of strength and weaker areas. You should never try to compete with your neighbour or the teacher, instead focus on yourself , gaining an understanding of each Asana (posture) and how to work within the posture to improve your own flexibility and strength. You can take great pride in the improvements that you make from session to session.

Do not push your body and cause damage, always work with care and listen to your body. You should NEVER feel any pain (stretching but not pain). If you feel any pain in a posture at any time please stop immediately.

If you are ever unsure when working in a posture if you are working correctly please ask the teacher to check for you.

I hope you can work in these classes to develop your own improved flexibility and strength and can leave each class feeling energised and less stressed.

The class will start at 7:30pm, if you are late please don’t worry just enter quietly, find a space and join the class. Please ensure you have had a quiet time for composure and have completed the basic limbering up before you join in with the Asana practice.
