  A friend and I plan a trip to CR in late Jan. Probably stay near San Jose. Need a reasonably and safe place to stay, cell phones and transportation. Ideas and suggestions welcomed!!

  I'd try http://www.granhotelcostarica.com/ walk anywhere in this location. You can buy a couple basic Samsung or Nokia phone for $20 to $30 at any of the thousands of cell phone shops in CR, you buy the sim chip for the phone at the same time. Usually they ask for your passport. Depending on your budget, there are buses that go anywhere or taxis. A lot depends on what you hope to do while you are here.
