    I booked Mountain Beauties to do my hair and makeup for my elopement in Canmore May 26,2021 in February 2021. I dealt with the owner, Joanne Bampton and completed a questionnaire prior to signing a contract with them. Everything looked great, I signed the contract and paid a deposit of 123.00 with the remaining amount for the services to paid in cash the day of the wedding. The contract states the deposit is non-refundable to secure the booking, however it does not mention anything about COVID or restrictions and what happens to the deposit when neither party is at fault for services not being able to be followed through on. Tighter COVID restrictions were put into place for high risk regions the beginning of May, which meant no hair or makeup services could operate in Canmore/Banff as they were high risk regions. I personally reached out to Mountain Beauties via email May 4 to clarify that Mountain Beauties would not be able to operate and inquired about transferring the deposit to a different date, as I had not heard from them regarding new restrictions. I had already called and left a message for a callback with the wedding date with no response a few days prior. Joanne responded 10 days later and stated that they can apply the deposit to a different date and to let them know what date. She gave me her cell phone number for me to reply to ensure a quick response. My fiancé and I decided to go ahead and keep our original date of May 26 as we had already booked time off work and arranged childcare and would just deal with whatever restrictions were in place. I informed her of our plan to go ahead with our original date on May 16. I did not receive a response or any confirmation of same. I also follow them on social media and saw they were providing services to clients on hotel patios. I was desperately hoping there was a chance I could have my services for the wedding rather than doing it myself even if it meant changing locations and I reached out via the number given on May 21 to inquire if that was at all possible as I had seen on social media videos of services being done (in our communications it was never explicitly stated to me that services could not be provided, I assumed they couldn’t based on public health announcements, any chance they were open I was going to jump on!). She responded the same day that due to restrictions they could not provide services and that the only way they could do it was to move the location or reschedule. She said they could operate out of the Kananaskis Pomeroy resort currently as it was a district with no restrictions. She then outlined the penalties for operating against the law. Totally fair, I was not interested in breaking any laws, just a bride hoping for any way I could get the services done legally. I responded asking about the deposit and if it is forfeited, then another message asking if we could move the location to Kananaskis as it was only 15 minutes away and we would be willing to travel there and pay any extra fees if it meant I could get my hair and makeup done. My wedding was in a few days and I was obviously very stressed and trying as hard as I could to make it work. I never received a response. At all. I still have not received a response. We went ahead and got married, I did my own hair and makeup and it was amazing. I understand Covid and restrictions has created challenges and hurdles for businesses, however, it is not excuse for lack of communication. I feel like they already had my deposit and felt like to them I no longer mattered, I did not feel like a valued customer. I was especially upset that my wedding was so close, and I could not get any response, again reiterated to me that I was not important. I was so excited to work with them, their work looked amazing. I am very disheartened that I had such a negative experience with them. I am extremely disappointed with my experience and based on the lack of communication, updates, any information on the deposit (if I could possibly sell to another bride, etc.) or any chance of services provided elsewhere (Kananaskis, etc.) and considering I have still received no response to date, more than a week AFTER my wedding, I do not recommend this company. To add: I posted this review on the companies Facebook and Instagram pages and they were promptly deleted.
