  So coming to check out Nanaimo next weekend in consideration of moving there. Gonna watch the jump in the lake fun at the dam and explore the town. Is this a good place to move? We are post children and looking for a nice place warmer then Winnipeg. Thanks

  When you come, go to Heritage Mews in the downtown quarter. Check out all of the shops. Eat at Bocca Cafe for brunch. Order anything, it's all perfect. Go down to Commercial street, check out the shops, galleries, and Diana Krall plaza. Visit the Port Theatre and look at the shows coming up. Cross the street to the sea-walk and walk along the water, check out all the boats, sea planes, and have some ice cream or gelato. Walk down to Swy-a-lana Lagoon and Park. Talk to many people with dogs. Consider taking the little ferry across to Newcastle Island for a hike. Come back, walk the sea-walk back toward Cameron Island and take the ferry across to Piper's Pub and Restaurant on Protection Island. If you like fish and chips, don't pass that up. Come back and enjoy some local music at one of several quaint locations like Acme. The next day, go for an early morning hike at Westwood Lake, Lindley Valley, Neck Point, Piper's Lagoon, Morrell Sanctuary, Colliery Dam or other beautiful place right here in Nanaimo. Take a Go Green Smoothie from Power House Foods with you! When you get back, have brunch at Gabriel's Cafe on Commercial Street. Stop in at Alberni Outpost and take a kayak around the harbour or circle Newcastle Island. Next, drive through Departure Bay (stop at the beach if you want to) and around Hammond Bay road. Find Long Lake, Diver Lake, Brannen Lake, and Lost Lake. This will show you several lovely neighborhoods. Have dinner at Blue Ginger, La Stella Trattoria, or Marina's Taverna. Take in a show at the Port Theatre or one of the many local theatre productions, or just go for an evening stroll along Departure Bay. Decide you are staying another week because you haven't even been to the Farmers Market, Gabriola Island, Cedar, or anything outside of Nanaimo yet. :) https://www.facebook.com/impactdigitalphotography
