Then the next time I had a flat, I got it checked at a different place. They said that two tires actually had to be replaced, and gave me a price. I called the place on Betsalel, who quoted me a significantly lower price for the exact same model tire, so I went over there. And when I asked him if there was any discount if I bought two tires, he said the second one was perfectly fine, no need to buy two! I always go there now, and their default assumption is always that the tire can be fixed. Sure, they check it, and they have good prices on new tires - but they're just as happy when they don't actually sell you one.
