  I would refer him to a certified lymphatic therapist for sure. They are trained in differential diagnosis and can properly communicate with the physician and handle the situation appropriately. It's possible that it will be covered by insurance, as well. Check www.lymphnet.org or www.clt-Lana.com for directories. Typically, the patient would ask the physician for a referral to either a pt or an ot for lymph edema...but your client may want to call whomever may be in his network to ask how to get referral

  I don't have cancer but I have lymphedema in my left leg due to my knee replacement surgery, My right knee should be replaced as well but my doctors told my I have a 98% chance of getting lymphedema in that leg it I have the surgery. Now my doctors tell me I need surgery on my left shoulder. Could I end up with lymphedema in my left arm due to this surgery as well?

  Hi Lora, I'm sorry to hear about that! I think that it would depend on the actual cause of the lymphedema. Was your lymphatic system damaged just because of the surgery or is it possible that it was weak before surgery? I would talk with your lymphedema therapist and doctors to see what they think. Maybe they can even do some diagnostic work to look at your lymphatic system overall to see if they can help determine your risk.   I would like information on the treatment of abdominal lymphedema with cellulitis. My husband is currently on antibiotics; however, he is finding it very difficult to walk due to an overhanging abdomen. We are doing the leg-wapping with compression bandages; however, his abdomen is a real problem. He really needs help with this; our insurance does not want to pay for more therapy and our primary care physician really doesn't know much about it. Any suggestions?

  I need assistance with home care in New Jersey. I tried out physical therapy and they massaged the area however they couldn't wrap me due to the lump being so big on my right back thigh. The table was too high for me to get up on the table for me to be wrapped and standing a long amount of time was very difficult. Thank you for whatever help you can provide.
