Hannah V. wrote: Was told that some small wooden built in bookshelves would be $800 in materials. Against my better judgement I paid it. I had to repeatedly ask where he was and where they were. THREE WEEKS LATER shows up with less than half of the built ins made of MDF. Told me he had to special order the mdf. I haven't run into a lowes or Home Depot that doesn't have mdf and it certainly doesn't cost $800. So not only did I pay way too much, I didn't even get a quality or finished product. Also didn't finish a $1600 iron stair railing. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL WITH SHOWING UP (rarely did and when he did it was not more than about an hour and a half). Kept trying to be patient and get what I paid for, but never did. Also, he kept asking for additional money to be able to finish. Last two times I finally just said no more money until it's done. Had a professional carpenter show up today and he said the mdf he used was around $50 per sheet. Maybe 3 sheets needed for the whole project. I hate being negative about people's work, but seriously save your money. In my experience, no amount of patience or money will get you a finished product. I get that I shouldn't have paid any upfront but was told you pay half up front and the other when it is finished. This didn't stop him from asking for more money and not finishing the job. When talking to a friend later about my frustration at not being able to get the contractor out to finish...they asked by name if it was him and said they had EXACTLY the same issues.
