  Anyone have a suggestion for a really great dog obedience trainer in the area? I'm at my wit's end with our husky mix. He keeps bolting out the door and running the neighborhood. He got out at noon today, didn't allow anyone to catch him, and still isn't back. :( He wouldn't get in out car like he usually does when he takes off, and I thought for sure that as cold as it is he would come home on his own after a half hour or so. But after speaking to the animal control officer who stopped by around 1:30 (Thanks whoever called! >:( ) and trying to catch him for another 45 minutes after that I just don't know what more to do. He thinks it's a fun game to pretend that you can catch him, then he bolts off again. We have tried everything the AC officer suggested to us and nothing has been able to keep him inside. He's a really good dog other than this one bad habit, and we don't want to get rid of him, but I feel like it may be our only option. If he gets out again we are going to start being ticketed, and I really don't want to have to pay fines every time he escapes.

  I own Pawsitive K-9 Obedience. It sounds like your dog needs to learn not only obedience but also door manners - just because a door is open doesn't mean it's okay to use it until released to do so. I offer classes in Lansing and also do home calls. In your situation, I would recommend a home call to begin with to get some immediate training and tools and then a class to help learn the skills in the face of distractions of other people, dogs and new locations. www.pawsitivek9 obedience.com
