I used Gentle Giant for a local move (they do distance moves too) and cannot say enough good things about them. They were all hard workers, and they had a system in place that got me out of my apartment into Fairlington in like 2 hours despite a broken service elevator at my apartment complex. I used Graebel Van Lines years ago for two cross-country moves. I learned in my research that a lot of moving companies contract out and your stuff can get moved to subcontractors as the move proceeds. Graebel doesn't use subcontractors -- or didn't then. It's worth looking into. I also used to work on Capitol Hill -- on the Senate Committee w/oversight over interstate commerce and sadly we heard a lot of complaints about companies that transferred people's belongings between subcontractors for long moves. That was also quite a while ago, so things may have improved -- but if I were doing a long distance move would look for a company that will have your stuff from point A to point B.

We used Gentle Giant Moving Company (the Beverly team), and they were absolutely fantastic. We have a LOT of stuff, including a bunch of delicate glassware, various wooden musical instruments, etc., and not a single thing was scratched/damaged. They also accommodated our schedule of moving out & closing on one house on one day, and then closing on the new house & moving in the next day, and were VERY friendly and helpful the whole time. Sure, they probably did cost more than some movers would charge, but honestly, they were worth every penny. I'd recommend them to anyone!

Trowt..and they have a storage place too. I had my mom's furniture stored with them (circa 1943) and they took it out of storage for me, went over the whole thing with Olde English before they brought it over to me! Joke of the dya with the guys was...The Trowts are moving The Herings...lol
