Finding a Place to Stay when younger then 21 I'm going to be visiting Boston the first weekend of October to visit my girlfriend (also under 21) and haven't found a...

I have stayed [here](http://www.hostelworld.com/hosteldetails.php/Backpackers-Hostel-and-Pub/Boston/35211?dateFrom=2013-09-19&dateTo=2013-09-22&sc_sau=avdc&sc_pos=1) before. It's a hostel and you're staying in an 8 person room, but it is cheap and they have a shuttle to the close T stop. I would also check out [airbnb](https://www.airbnb.com/). This is a cheap way to stay with local people that is legit and usually cheap. You can also try [couchsurfing](https://www.couchsurfing.org/), which is free, but it is not really a hotel service. It is more of a way to meet new people and you should be trying to spend time with your host. Hope this helps!

From my experience with this only the person actually reserving the room has to be 21, not the person showing up and checking in. So theoretically you could have a parent or friend over 21 reserve the room for you and you yourself just go and check in (which is what I used to do a lot). All they really want is a credit card (not a debit card!) at check in for incidentals. Doesn't have to be the one used to make the reservation.

Call a hotel (don't provide your name) see of they will assist. Say you are coming for business at a place like a holiday inn express near North station. They will accommodate you. They won't mess with business travelers. Also signing up for the loyalty program for a chain and reserving that way also can work. Do you homework, call around, you will find something in the city

It is almost definitely not in your price range, and they may have changed policies, but back in my freshman year of college (out in Worcester), a bunch of us got a room at [The Copley Square Hotel](http://www.copleysquarehotel.com/) specifically because they were basically only the hotel in town which had an 18+ policy as opposed to 21+. This was back in 2005, though, so call and see if things have changed there since.

You might technically be required to be 21 to stay at a hotel, but in practice it doesn't matter. Don't ask, don't tell.

I spent a few minutes looking at train schedules for you, and I think your best bet is taking the LIRR from Woodside to Ronkonkoma. The train leaves Woodside at 6:19am and arrives Ronkonkoma at 7:25am. I'd suggest opening the Uber app and requesting a ride a few minutes before you pull into Ronkonkoma so that the car is waiting for you at the station, just incase it's a bit of a wait for a car. (Just make sure you set the pin on Uber to the correct location for pickup!)
I tried to get an Uber once from Ronkonkoma at 5am on a holiday and it was a 15 minute wait.
Worst case, if there are no Ubers available, there's always some taxis at the station (it's a big, busy station)...you'll just pay more. Uber's fare calculator is estimating $17-22 for the ride each way. It's expensive but there's really no alternative, unfortunately.

grew up in yaphank...still live nearby. no such thing as cheap hotel on LI which is safe....closest is spring hill suites. then u could taxi or uber. good luck. btw, yaphank station is walking dsttance to farm but scheds r spotty
MiCrOz replied:
Uber is $75-150 and Lyft is $49-120 depending on time and if car pooling. Once you take the ride, try to make a deal with the driver to come pick you up and take you each weekend for cash, you save money and he/she makes extra

Are you the only one in this predicament? Can you carpool with someone? Speak to the professor for suggestions? What school is this for? I'm wondering if somehow they may have resources. I am wondering if you could do an alternative assignment as a worse case scenario. I work with students and for field-based work especially, not every student is able to accommodate every scenario. I've worked with a few disabled students before as well and some things are just not going to be feasible for them here on LI due to lack of transportation options. It is what it is.

I would post an ad on Craigslist seeking a room for a month or whatever in the housing section and maybe even the general community situation. Just explain your situation and all that. It's worth a try and I know Craigslist can be a pain but might work as a last resort.

Get off at ronkonkoma or Patchogue and Uber from there. Keep an eye on the Uber app about 15-20 mins out from the station, and call one so the car arrives just as you pull in. Uber may be harder to come by in the mornings and may take about 10-15 minutes to get. Anyone else in you situation you can split the Uber with?

The farm is at the intersection of the LIE and Yaphank road. As an easy landmark to orient yourself to the area, the William Floyd Parkway is just east of the farm and reaches all the way down past Shirley, through Mastic and across the bay to the Smith Point Park on the barrier beach. I say this so you can quickly orient yourself when you look at the online maps. There are 2 Long Island Craigslists: [one for Long Island only]( https://longisland.craigslist.org/) and one for [the Tri-State region]( https://newyork.craigslist.org/lgi/). The first one, for Long Island only, has more listings on LI under the categories: [Rooms/Shared]( https://longisland.craigslist.org/d/rooms-shares/search/roo) but nothing that would suit your situation under Sublets & Temporary. There is a listing in Shirley that gives me the impression that they are urgently searching for a tenant, because they have 58 listings for their place. Look under Rooms/Shared and opt to view the Map View on the left side. The farm is at the intersection of the LIE and Yaphank road. Look to the East and down, along William Floyd Parkway (a wide, heavily trafficked road). There is a Shirley listing where they have repeatedly posted a room in a house for sharing for $250 a week. They have posted this ad so many times, it seems like they can’t find a tenant but really, really want one. MAYBE they will lease it for you at a nightly rate to make a few bucks until they find a monthly tenant. If you take the amount they are requesting, $250 per week divided by 7 = $35.71 per night for the month of April. You could round it up a bit to sweeten the deal too. Of course, you would have to find transportation to and from the home (Uber/Lyft or Rent-A-Wreck car rental maybe?) for the weekend trips. Another, less likely option would be to research Smith Point Park and Southaven Park campgrounds. Both are Suffolk County campgrounds that non-residents can access for a fee and might be a last-ditch option if you camp.

I can get you to hotels in the area . I live in Medford in a condo complex that is by 112. You can go to port Jefferson train station and take the bus that runs north to south along 112. There are 2 hotels just south of the lie on 112.

Maybe try Skedaddle. It’s a crowdsourcing charter bus service out of the city that you only pay for if it fills up. Since it is for the class you might have a chance if you get your class mates to sign up for it after you set it up. Basically you go to the website and set up the route (your trip is actually free if the bus gets filled enough) and then they make a link for that specific route and anyone can sign up and pay for it. The trip only happens if they get enough people signed up and paid a few days before the trip. [here’s the website ](https://www.letskedaddle.com)

I would just find a hotel in your final destination vs just one for the night. The airport is really close to he city so you can take a taxi or the T. It would be better than having to relocate just a few hours later. Boston is a great city with tons to see. Have fun!
ramimac replied:
From what I remember (Boston native) the airport is almost completely shut down at that time of night. There are definitely 24 hr accomodations nearby, but I have no specific recommendations for that or Airbnbs - as a local I've never had to take advantage. If you post your interests I'm happy to recommend sights, sites and activities

I've stayed at a couple airbnb apts in the Boston area that had coded locks, so no need to meet for keys. Book a room & arrive whenever. I haven't used airbnb in a while but one apt. was in somerville near sullivan sq. & the other in chelsea near the maverick stop. both would be very short cab rides from the airport (subways don't run 24 hours in boston).

Can anyone recommend a hotel/motel right at hampton beach
Mary L. replied:
Janet...have a recommendation for you from a friend who lives in Hampton. Google O.C. Studio Suites Hampton. Ocean view right across the street from the beach. A short distance from the bar scene and the noise that can be Hampton Beach, but close enough to still be in it. And if you do come and time allows, give me a call. I am abt 15 min south of you and would certainly drive over if that fits our schedules and your plans. Any way...have fun!
