Richard M. replied:
BROS & Bali Royal will give you access to a larger number of Specialists, mostly older & locally trained. If you are treated by the better ones it's a benefit, but the quality of facilities & standards of hygiene are lower than Siloam & BIMC. BIMC & Siloam have better facilities & standards of hygiene more in line with Western expectations. Siloam owns BIMC now & you'll have access to a lot of the same Specialities, as required. Siloam is newer & therefore the medical equipment is newer than BIMC. The prices you will be charged at BIMC are much higher, so if you're paying on your own or want less resistance to payment from your insurers then Siloam would be a better option on that front. BROS & Bali Royal were the best the island had to offer for a long time, have a large client base & established reputations, but the competition is much much higher now. The Indonesian Medical Profession is very Protectionist & the power in Bali rested in hospitals like BROS, Bali Royal & Sanglah for a long time. Siloam & BIMC will give you access to younger Doctors, that may be internationally trained & have therefore been exposed to more modern medical techniques. I've had contact with all the facilities & Siloam saved my life shortly after I came to Bali for the first time. They'd be my first choice every time.

I am not sure that's correct Gia. Aussie Travel Cover offers this, underwritten by Allianz. I believe World Nomads does also. It would be very strange not to be able to buy travel insurance! Many people who live in Bali travel to all kinds of destinations regularly and need travel insurance.

1Cover (Allianz Sydney). World Nomads ( Lloyds London). I had a week in hospital here with Dengue. 1Cover brilliant, but they increased my premium next cycle, so I moved to WN. Easy online, very good cover/price.

Emma-lee Wilson - with your 'travel' insurance - check the length of time you are allowed to be out of your home country at any one time. Although you may take out 6 month travel cover, you may still only be allowed to be in the one country for 40 days....check the small print.
