Need trusted pawnshop/jeweler Any suggestions for a trusted local pawn shop or local jeweler, preferably from personal experience? Looking to sell my diamond engagement...

Prepare yourself ahead of time for a disappointing price.

I don't have recommendations but in a best case scenario you are looking at 25% of what was paid for it. If you need money asap then go for it, if it's an unfortunate break up I suggest holding onto it and when opportunity strikes have a jewler remake it into something cool for a loved one or yourself. If it's a money issue you may very well fair better via private sale

Old Town has consistently given me above spot silver price on some bullion sales. Cowardin's is my jeweler of choice these days.

I work as a jeweler and I can tell you, it will always be a disappointment. The most any jeweler will give you is 25% of the retail value because the most they can resell it for is 50% of the retail value. By the time it gets to the estate case, it will need to be appraised, touched up by the jeweler and then photographed and listed on the website, so the store has spent another couple hundred on all of that. So margins can be pretty slim on engagement rings in the estate section.
Your best bet is to find someone local who is into the style and look of your ring and sell it to them. You’ll do much better price wise. I know my store has served as a meeting place for situations like that in the past, we will have one of our three Graduate Gemologists on staff take a look at the piece and verify color, clarity and size to give peace of mind to the purchaser.

Hey, sorry I'm really late to the party (we're all off this week).
As other people have pointed out, your best chance by far is going to be to find a private buyer, especially if you don't mind waiting for it to sell. More often than not, local jewelers / pawn shops are going to be buying based on wholesale or liquidation pricing, which is a lot less than you'd get for it finding a private party to buy it.
In my experience, most of what people are trying to sell lately are nicer rings, still in good condition, either recently purchased or infrequently worn. Either way, you're more than welcome to bring it by once we're open again (Jan. 2nd) and I can help give you a good idea of what fair market for private sale would be, as well as helping you with a description of it for your listing (a lot of purchase receipts lack a shocking amount of info, it seems).
Then, if you do find somebody, we're happy to let y'all meet in our shop as a safe/public place to make the sale.
Lemme know if you've got any other questions,
-Joey Kambourian

You can always try posting here on Reddit or CL. You’ll get better $ selling yourself, otherwise they are going to give you wholesale prices.

I sold a pair of diamond earrings to Kambourian Jewelers in Carytown a couple of years ago and got a pretty decent price.

I’ve sold some stuff over at Dixie Trading on Williamsburg road, out by the airport. Dude there is always fair/reasonable and he seems like a pretty solid guy. At least worth a call, but that’s where I’d go. Anyway good luck
