If you sign up for a free online account with Autozone - the auto parts store - you can access free repair info. I don't know which publisher they use. We subscribe to Auto Repair Reference Center through Ebsco and they are the Chilton's manuals.

I've used Mitchell and Chilton through different libraries. Unsure of the cost though.

They still publish in print; however, I don't think they publish manuals for vehicles that are only a couple of years old. I'm not sure about Mitchell. But if its an older car, there is also Haynes manuals. My dad used to have Mitchell shop manuals in his shop. I'm guessing that is all online now and they don't make the print anymore.

My former employer had Auto Repair Reference Center (Chilton's, through EBSCO), Mitchell's, and Alldata. Whenever I needed to do work on my car, I would print out info from all three. Invariably, one was more useful than the others, but there was no consistency about which one.
