Help needed.....The hubby and I are looking for a good midwife or good birthing center that is not a hospital. I can Google but didn't really know where to start so...

Special Beginnings is the closest, (I am personally going there and have had several friends give shinning reviews. After having a hospital birth, I would rather labor in a broom closest than go back to a hospital for #2. I have also looked into several options and have many studies, this one is from the NIH. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1447883/ ) The other one is Bay Area Midwifery. Bay Area is actually connected to the hospital via tunnel. Both centers are the only accredited birthing centers in this area (and I believe in MD). Spec. Beg. is a larger facility with 3 birthing rooms (only 2 with tubs) and delivers 40 babies or so a month (if I remember correctly) Bay Area has 2 birthing rooms (which are nicer, both have very large tubs) but they only deliver about 15 babies a month. I personally went with Spec. Beg. because I've heard good things from the people that have been there and don't know anyone from Bay Area. Bay Area didn't seem to have very friendly people answer the phone and they had a higher transfer rate, but they were both fairly comparable, when I visited Bay Area the front desk people were a little blah, but the midwife I met with was very nice. If you are looking into a birthing center you should visit both and get your own feelings. If you have any questions please message me! Best of luck!

Corine Cortina....Thanks girl! This is very helpful! My husband started laughing about birthing in a broom closet instead of hospital! Lol! Special Beginnings is not far from my parents house so that could be a big factor for me but I will definitely check into both. Is it weird for a NON pregnant woman to meet with them! Lol! I (well actually my husband) just wants to get everything set. I will definitely message you if i have any questions! Thanks a bunch!

That's what I told her. I will definitely look into them. I just Googled them and they are really close to Anne Arundel Medical Center plus Arnold Fire Station. Thanks girl!

I just found out that my Ped. won't accept patients not born in the hospital, so I'm actually looking for a new one. I was going to Dr. Gvozden, so if you go to a BC don't look into them.
