Alisha Hagen Ty my 10 year old Golden retriever was very allergic to everything. When he was 6 months old I took him to VMC and spent around $1500 in exames. At that time, 10 years ago, I started to study about the Pet food industry. Since then I figure that I should go back to my roots and and started cooking for him with virgin coconut oil. Back in Brasil I never fed my dogs commercial food and they lived long healthy lives. I still add high quality kibble for many reasons. My dogs grew on Fromm grain free USA family owned company. Nowadays they're are on 1/2 homemade and Orijen 6 fish diet for Pumba (my VERY allergic Pit whom I have also taken to the Holistic Vet Dr.Chen) and my Goldens. Zoca my Havanese never really had allergies but last year she had some and I took her to a Vet in Huntington spent about $900 in tests. Then changed her diet to Nature's Variety limited ingredients and raw boost selection. After spending all that money I figured it out myself with my reach that Orijen had too much protein for her breed and she was having trouble digesting. Bottom line is, a good healthy balanced diet is essencial for their immune system. I to be honest would feed my dogs raw food if I trusted the FDA. I would also feed them Stella Chews, Healthy Kitchen which are excellent raw dehydrated food. But with 4 dogs I can't afford 75# of food/week, My dogs have had no yeast or skin infection for the longest time. Pumba the pit is pretty much allergic to the air we breath and plus. But he's doing very well on Orijen and with the virgin coconut oil as a treat as well. If you like to chat further you know where to find me. Send my love to Chief! <3

I believe the request was for a dermatologist, not medical advice. Dr White Whethers, or Dr. Panach, or the dermatologist at VMCLI are all board certified dermatologists. Pick the one that is most convenient to you location wise, there may be multiple visits.

^ Dr. Wen, Hampton Vet. Is holistic. I take my dogs to him and he's wonderful. I would not go with a vet diet. They're generally full of fillers like corn.

Dr. Wen comes highly recommended. I believe there is a holistic vet in Setuaket, just can't recall the name.

Veterinary Medical Center of Long Island in West Islip. 631-587-0800. We see Blaise's ophthalmologist there, and I am getting ready to schedule with the dermatology department myself. Battling a rash on my Smooth Collie boy too. The specialists there are all wonderful and the whole staff is great. They are not cheap but not outrageous, and they are fair.
