Eric Waggot a former Town Clerk of Hartlepool wrote a brillant account of Ward Jackson entitled Jacksons Town which was published in 1980 by Hartlepool Borough Council. There should be a copy in Hartlepool public library. He was a gifted but flawed visionary with enourmous energy and as well as developing the town and docks found time to pursue two major fueds, one with the encumbent of Christ Church, John Hart Burgess and the other with a Liverpool broker called Benjamin Colman who exposed the irregularity of Ward Jackson's business methods and brought ward Jackson down. Ward Jackson did not grately benifit from his endevours and towards the end of his life lived in genteel poverty. The founding fathers of the town such as George Pyman and William Gray amassed great fortunes through the opportunities created by Ward Jackson and a fund was established to provide an anuity for Jacksn but unfortunately Jackson died with the anuity unused so the money was used to buy the land and establish the Ward Jackson Park in his memory
