I have been to Bali quite a few times but never been to Ujung Water Palace. It looks amazing! Just wondering if anyone has been, is it better to book through a tour...

I will be pleased to be your driver if you don't mind, the entrance ticket it will cost you 25.000 $2,5 per person....and thistory history of that place...UJUNG SUKASADA PARK Taman Sukasada (Sukasada Park) is a beautiful park located at Ujung Village, around 5 km southern part of Amlapura Town. The park is laid out very beautiful and unique reminiscent to the Dutch colonial period because the architecture of the park is designed by European style. Now, this park has been refurbished into beautiful site that is swept by the tropical atmosphere make this site become peaceful which is suitable for relaxation. If you visit this site, you will be brought into a memorable of Dutch colonialism period as well as the buildings are designed based on European style that create the classic nuance so this park is a must place to visit on your vacation in the island of God. #History In the beginning, there was only a pond founded here where the pond was very haunted and secret where this pond is named by Di Dirah. The existence of this pond has been there when reign of I Gusti Gde Putu king (1849-1893) together with his brother I Gusti Gde Oka (1849-1890) and the surrounding area of this pond has been used a dumping place for those accused of running the witchcraft (black magic). In the reign of I Gusti Bagus Jelantik who becomes king in 1909, the areal of this pond is expanded and builds some ponds and a magnificent Bale Gili building with European style, hence this site is named by Taman Sukasada Ujung Karangasem. This park is located in the strategically location which is close to the beach and many springs were found. #Mascot of Bali Tourism When viewed from the history, almost all the heritages of Karangasem Kingdom both in Lombok and Bali Island those are consisted of pond and Gili Building where the Gili building is set on the pond like Mayura Park, Narmada Park located in west Lombok. Taman Sukasada is able to be said as a mascot of Bali’s Tourism because Sukasada Park is well known in all over the world. One of the interesting points in Taman Sukasada is Taman Gili (Gili Park) set in the middle of large pond and this place is especially used as a relaxation site by Karangasem King. #Karangasem King Karangasem King I Gusti Bagus Jelantik which then hold Agung Agung Anglurah Ketut Karangasem is a statesman, writer and also an architect. He created many buildings, not just a park but also some buildings in Puri Agung Amlapura ( Amlapura Palace) including entrance gate look like Pagoda that make an admiration for every viewer. He is a brilliant king, smart, artistic and powerful in spirituals. It was recorded on the Bali's history that he was success to kick out the Dutch in Singaraja together with Singaraja King 'Gusti Ngurah Panji Sakti'.

Firstly, it depends where you are travelling from. Will you be staying in the area or doing a day trip from down South? Ujung grounds are quite large and there is very little shade as you walk around. A very., very small entrance fee From memory there is also a small fee for the toilet (maybe 10 cents). and the need to wrap a sarong around you. Worth going IF you understand the story behind it either from basic research, or going with a Driver who knows the area and is willing to explain it. If on a day trip maybe you can add Tirta Gangga Water Palace, but please take the time to stop and have lunch there as you won't want to leave it in a hurry. Kings Palace is in the centre of Amlapura; great history, great layout, but the luxury and richness factor have all but gone. What ever you choose East Bali is a great place to go.

Thank you everyone for your info. I have read the history online but want to be guided through as it's explain so I know the relevance of each area/ building etc. I have been to Tirti Ganga previously and it was beautiful. I will look into the kings Palace too and make sure I bring a bottle of water and a hat (thanks for the heads up). As a regular visitor (with Balinese family) I am aware of the dress requirement when visiting religious sites. We are staying in both Ubud and Legian, and planning to go from Ubud.
