Dog Groomer referrals in Greeley, CO from Mar 30, 2014
Chet M. asked:
I have a lab that has allergies and it makes her have course hair and dry skin. I was taking her to a lady that would bath her and not sure what else in Greeley and it really helped. I was told to give her fish oil pill every morning as well as a raw egg. Does anyone have any ideas or know of a good dog groomer in rifle that is reasonable priced?
April M. answered:
I have found that dogs with allergies do worse on Science Diet than most other brands. Science Diet isn't all the vets and commercials try to make it out to be. My best friend is a canine nutritionist, has been doing it for many, MANY years (went through schooling and the whole shebang). The canine nutritionists (that don't get kickback for peddling Science Diet) ranks that food right along side of some of the terrible quality foods (Ol' Roy, etc).
Carla G. answered:
I would start with a small bag to see if she likes it,. I just bought their largest bag ( 28 lbs I think) on sale for $41.99. I think today is the last day for the sale too of this brand. But you have a much larger dog than me, and I know that PetSmart, especially the one here in Junction, is awesome about you returning any unused bags of food
ReAnna S. answered:
Chet, there are more and more people and pets coming up with wheat allergies
Chet M. answered:
Ok maybe ill look at the Purina one. Where do you get it and how much is it?
ReAnna S. answered:
I get my Purina ONL Sensitive Systems at Petsmart on sale it runs me $29 per 40# bag
ReAnna S. answered:
ONE lol
Chet M. answered:
O wow thats why better than my $50 for the 40# science diet
ReAnna S. answered:
I agree
Carla G. answered:
Chet, just for the heck of it, how about tryng something that doesn't have any poultry it. Maybe try that Pruina with Salmon in it, if they make it. My pug that I mentioned is also not allowed to have any kind of poultry because I have found over the years that many dogs are also allergic to it. If you are going to try something different, please make sure you are changing her over gradually, over a 5-7 day period
Chet M. answered:
ReAnna Seal what does yours have in it? Im definitely open for the change that Carla Griffin is talking about!
Carla G. answered:
Chet, the brand that I use on my dogs is made by PetSmart. It is called, Simply Nourish. I use the Salmon sweet potato formula that has tons of omega 3's in it. Does Rifle have a PetSmart close by?
Chet M. answered:
In Glenwood. What size of bag and how much is that running?
Chet M. answered:
O boy.... ok what brand does your friend recommend? Iv been reading that alot actually. I don't wanna spend any more than what I am now but want a good dog food that will help her and help her joints as labs have bad joints.
Carla G. answered:
Chet have you had your Lab to the vet to be checked for what kind of allergies she might have? Sometimes changing their diet to a grain free diet can help with allergies as well. I have a pug that suffers from environmental allergies. He gets a grain free diet, I use a prescription lotion on him, and give him coconut oil as well. Also during the spring when pollen starts to come out, I wipe his paws when I am home every time he comes in with a warm damp was rag.
Chet M. answered:
Yeah I have. I guess that explains why it started acting up last few weeks.
ReAnna S. answered:
I have a Siberian with same problem, I have her on Purina ONE sensitive systems and it works great. It has the fish oil in it, it does smell really fishy, but my dog is better so I don't care lol
Chet M. answered:
I have her on the science diet.
ReAnna S. answered:
does it have wheat or corn as the first or second ingredient?
Katelin G. answered:
We have a border collie with skin allergies, we have switched him to Diamond dry dog food, and I buy fish oil from our vet, or you can get it cheaper at amazon. It lasts a long time. You can also give her a 24 hour allergy pill like Zyrtec, or Claritan each day it helps our dog so much.
Chet M. answered:
Chicken is first then whole grain wheat is second

I feed Natural Balance L.I.D. Limited Ingredient Diets Lamb Meal & Brown Rice Formula. My 40 pound pit bull girl gets 2 cups a day (1 morning, 1 evening). My growing puppy (currently 28 pounds) gets 3 cups a day. I also buy my food through http://www.chewy.com/ because it's not only cheaper than in the stores, but it's free shipping over $49 (my ex-husband and I combine orders), and 2-3 days to deliver via UPS.
Amanda B. answered:
Anything BUT Science Diet, filled with corn, causes a lot of problems with allergies, not to mention they poop a lot! Go to Tractor Supply and get their 4Health brand Fish grain free diet, it is about $35 for 28 lbs. My dog is on the beef version and doing fantastic!!!!!
Amanda B. answered:
Not to mention it has glucosamine and chondroitin in it for their joints. I used to work for a popular natural pet foods company, and I even bought the 4Health brand while working for them LOL
Chet M. answered:
Thanks April McCrea. I just looked it up and read the reviews and everyone likes it. One was even for a silver lab which is what I have that are known to have bad skin.
Chet M. answered:
April McCrea can I ask you one more question.... what is the serving size for a 60-65 lb dog?
Carrie G. answered:
chet, also keep in mind that petsmart will take back bags of dog food, if there are any issues with your pet not liking it, having allergies etc. It is a nice way to not feel stuck with a brand/bag of dog food if you are having allergy issues. good luck.
April M. answered:
Sorry, had to take a much needed nap. Puppy has had me up since 4:30 this morning. To answer your question, 5-6 cups, give or take depending on the dog itself. For my pit bull girl, anything more than 2 cups a day and she starts getting fat. For my puppy, as he grows, so does the amount of food he gets since he is a growing pup.
