Agatha W. asked:
Does anyone have any good car rental price hacks? I'm trying to rent a car for a week in Denver and return it in New Mexico, which I realize is high may. Maybe I'm just going to have to deal with paying $450, but I'd rather not since my plane ticket was cheaper. Any intel appreciated.

Daniel O. answered:
Try carrentals.com . For some reason they have rates that are stupidly cheap. I got a 4 day rental over the weekend for $65 TOTAL.
Jessica B. answered:
I always rent through Hotwire. It also matters where you pick-up/return -- I suggest looking for places close by your locations. (It was MUCH cheaper one time when I picked-up a car in Portland and returned it in Seattle.)
Brian R. answered:
Try off airport as well.
Pam H. answered:
Denver has a lot of day rental places that were cheap. Google them.
Harris W. answered:
Yeah - usually finding a car rental place away from the airport will be a lot cheaper. Also, surf the web for some discount codes - you'd be surprised what you'll find
Agatha W. answered:
Holy shit it's like $250 cheaper to leave the car at DIA and fly to new mexico. Including airfare.

Jessica Balsam I wanted to say where is the #CarbonPricing? But I wonder how the carbon footprints compare between driving 450 miles in a small car alone vs. launching a multi-ton jet into the stratosphere then gently bringing it back down, divided by 150 passengers. I honestly don't know.
Jessica M. answered:
Yeah, leaving the car in a different state than you rented it is always more $$.
Agatha W. answered:
Right, I just didn't think it would be more than flying to that other place!
Jessica B. answered:
Oh no - driving is MUCH, MUCH better. Jet fuel is an especially bad source of carbon pollution...and for all the reasons you just said. I sure there's a calculator online somewhere...
Agatha W. answered:
Obviously I was looking for better info than what to google, hoes. But nice to hear from you Nathan! When will I see you again? I'm a bike person now, you would be proud. I figured out that if you just get a lighter bike and bigger quads, you can just ride straight up stupid Capitol Hill. But I find myself thinking all the same things you used to say about biking: It's the best part of my day, I frequently go a few extra miles on my way home, it's faster than everything else, people who walk are moving slow as fck, and I now think the metro is really expensive. Come back soon so we can jam around on wheels before winter returns!
Nathan C. answered:
There really is a good carbon calculator on that link. Not back till October 1 or so. I have barely ridden out here. All sandy roads.
Phillip R. answered:
Aggie I couldn't believe the car rental even with name your own price but then about a week to four days out they sent me an email for 19 a day for a mid size. Also this was always the price picking the car up in downtown Denver, but I wasn't comfortable enough with the city for that maneuver.
Agatha W. answered:
oh how do i get that hook up?!
Phillip R. answered:
It just does it to me through my Priceline account it might be a took in account set up but it was emailing me this stuff up until the day I flew out.
