Electrician referrals in Duncan, OK from Dec 06, 2014
David S. asked:
To my Duncan buds...recommendations on an electrician? This AM, one half of my house does not have power. I looked at my circuit breakers, none of them have tripped, but I cycled them just in case, still no joy. At least kitchen, PC, TV, and back part are OK.
Samuel S. answered:
If you have an open circuit somewhere, due to a short, it won't always trip a breaker.
David S. answered:
It appears to be multiple circuits...I just noticed the stove/oven/fridge/microwave are out. I ran an extension cord from the E wall of the kitchen (which works) to my fridge.
David S. answered:
Samuel that explains a lot LOL
Samuel S. answered:
I screamed like a little girl every time. Thanks to Army training for telling me to never touch a circuit or cabinet with both hands at once...
Samuel S. answered:
Anyhoo, I wish I was there to potentially save you several hundred dollars.
Samuel S. answered:
Also, breakers don't trip when they are faulty...
David S. answered:
after Big Red safety meeting discussing arc flashing, etc, I have sworn off sticking my mulitmeter inside places I am not comfortable with:)
Cheryl C. answered:
No, I haven't. But I "liked" that you still had power for the important things in your home.
David S. answered:
ahh....I feel better now
David S. answered:
Thanks Sam, I appreciate you want to help
Samuel S. answered:
You're welcome. I have an OCD for attempting to fix things. It's an illness.
David S. answered:
you aren't OCD...you came by it naturally...it's called "The Knack"https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CmYDgncMhXw
Samuel S. answered:
*not necessarily due to a short. Insulation breakdown is common, do you have squirrels in your attic?
Jean S. answered:
I'm no help, but have really enjoyed this chat between father and son!
Samuel S. answered:
It's worse than I feared...
David S. answered:
embrace The Engineer in you! let the nerdiness flow!
Samuel S. answered:
I am a part time engineer on ships on waters that flow! Nerd is given.
Samuel S. answered:
Well, I will sleep now. I get off work at 4 am in the mornings. Good luck with your issue, my theory is that you have an open somewhere down the line.
Chris V. answered:
Dave, I think you can rule out that all of the circuit breakers failed at the same time. Could be something in the panel...Look for patterns...Are they all on the same side of the circuit panel? Of course, I know you are looking for a local electrician to call...just throwing my thoughts around.
David S. answered:
I'm not sure if there is a pattern because not all of the breakers are labeled...I just went up in the attic for a lookabout, realized I have 16" of nice fluffy white insulation blown in last year, so everything is buried! I didn't see obvious signs o...See More

David S. answered:

David S. answered:
I haven't heard anything up there, but that has me wondering now ...
David S. answered:
... I am too fat and stiff to climb up there an look around:(
Samuel S. answered:
I would be interested to take a multimeter to your power panel. Sounds to me, that one or multiple branch circuits are in trouble. Though we do and classify things differently on boats and it's easier to identify. If nothing is tripped it could still be after or before the breaker.
Samuel S. answered:
Process of elimination to troubleshoot.
David S. answered:
I'm a mechanical engineer...electrons scare me!
Samuel S. answered:
Electrons are your friends! I've only been popped by 220, like 3 times!
David S. answered:
hmmm...so Cheryl likes that I am having power problems??? she must not have had her coffee yet.
