Elena Z. asked:
I was wondering if someone could recommend a simple, very small cactii or succulent with a good chance of flowering for my office? I have 6 small clay pots (maybe 3 inches?), and the African violets are stunted in them, so I would like to try something different. The office is dry, the light is unobstructed but maybe 5-10 m away from the windows (short cubicles). I would prefer recommendations that I can purchase in the chain stores, like Rona or Walmart. Thank you!
Richard P. answered:
Not sure what cacti would flower in what sounds like fairly poor light. The lack of a cool rest period may also be an issue. Perhaps a Sinningia, stapeliad or a dwarf Aloe would be more likely to flower. An epiphytic cactus is another option. Could you rotate plants between your office and home so your plants spend some, perhaps most their time in brighter light?
Elena Z. answered:
I have access to a very bright window in the office, so I can move the plants there for the weekends
Richard P. answered:
I'm not sure if that would be good enough to get cacti to flower. Rebutias are very easy to get to flower but they like a cool winter rest.

Thank you, good to know. I picked up a few 'cool leaves' succulents leafy on sale at instead. Hopefully they will do well.
