Richmond friends, can anyone recommend a company/contractor for bathroom renovations?
Ryan R. replied:
I'd use the Brian Gray company. I'm sure he can handle the Honey-Do task.

I've never used BNW Builders but they did a lot of work to a home right outside of my neighborhood, and from what I saw on the outside they did really good work. The house was in pretty bad shape and the family didn't have the money so BNW did it all for free. They have testimonials, video and written, on their website.

My neighbor was telling me about how they were going to have their roof replaced. I figured I should do it too. Luckily, without even calling, Hardesty Roofing replaced it for me! The company my neighbor used must be terrible because they still haven’t done it.

I have had great experiences with Davis & Green electrical. They charge hourly labor (~95 p/hr) and materials in a very predictable fashion so it’s easy for me to save money by pre-planning work with them. I hovered over them a few times and was happy with their workmanship. For example, I needed every outlet pulled, tested and replaced in two kid bedrooms. I moved the furniture and called them. They were in and out in two hours and saved me a ton of money over other groups who itemize charges. I now wait to call then until I have 4-5 things that need to be done. I have three replacement light fixtures waiting in my office now for their next visit.

Not sure if this counts, but I’ve had to move a lot over the past 5 years I’ve lived in RVA. “Irish Ox Moovers” are FANTASTIC. They charge a fair rate and really take care of your stuff. Also, they’re the only moving company I’ve ever used that really works as fast as they can. I’ve had others who purposely work slow to make more money.

You guys reccommended this plumber a while back, he came out, was such a nice guy and did great work. Joe Hobgood 804-641-3983 "He's an honest independent guy, always super busy whenever I call him but he cares and will fit you in!"

I'll start one - for Auto Repair and maintenance I was using a local guy. The shop got sold, the prices went way up. I had heard of some good experiences with Firestone so I tried them out. (This was the shop on Ironbridge in Chesterfield) So, I've used them for tires, brakes, and a few moderate repairs and been very pleased. The costs were reasonable and explained in detail up front, the customer service was very good, and they do a good job meeting their promised times. I've heard good experiences from others going to other locations. Normally I like to find a nice local shop, but recently my local shop experiences were not good.

I'm going to review the other thread but, to branch it out here - Do you have anyone you like and trust for HVAC? It sounds like the big guys are not good. I need to replace our heat pump soon and need someone who I can trust and won't gouge. Bonus points for an "attention to detail" attitude.
