Does anyone have any leads on a family doctor taking patients???
Me and the kids have now been without doctors for well over a year... And I especially need one...
http://www.cpsa.ab.ca/PhysicianSearch/SearchResults.aspx?City=Lethbridge&OnlyShowAccepting=1&pType=0 Ok so the first post is a doctor in coaldale that the website says should be accepting patients. And this website is one in Lethbridge that should be. Now I have called doctors before that on the website say they are accepting patients and when I can they back pedal and say they aren't anymore. But it's worth a try!!

Windermere Plaza Medical Clinic May 5 at 12:16am · Dear PatientsOur heart goes out to all who have been affected by the devastating fires in Fort McMurray. If you have family, friends or colleagues who have been displaced to Edmonton and are in need of any medical attention, our physicians would be happy to assist. We've already had a few who had to flee without their prescription medication. For urgent needs, our clinic is open this Saturday morning from 10am till 2pm. We also have a second physician available on standby, should we have an unexpected influx of patients during that time. We will also do our best to provide additional cover during regular hours over the coming weeks. Outside of our regular hours, our on-call physician would also be happy to assist.Feel free to share this post, so we can reach out to as many of them as possible. Our thoughts and prayers are with them all... https://www.facebook.com/WPMC1/posts/612191325594643?fref=nf

Check out ratemds.com. You can search doctors and see how people have reviewed them. I find that the reviews are pretty spot on.

Walk in doctors As far as I know I don't have a family doctor (nor do I particularly want to tell my parents in the first place) but I want to go to my walk in doctor...

If you’re under 25 you can try this place. Easily access help. http://accessopenminds.ca/our-site/edmonton-ab/ Big pat on the back for getting help.

First of all, getting help is AWESOME. I don’t know why people stigmatize mental health and seeking help; life is batshit and if you’re not a LITTLE bit depressed these days, I wonder.
There are lots of different resources, any walk in doctor would have access to this information for you. As for confidentiality, I’ve attached a link about medical disclosure and privacy.
https://myhealth.alberta.ca/Alberta/Pages/Overview.aspx
As for ID for a medical appointment you would just need your Alberta healthcare card and sometimes they ask for another piece of photo ID to verify address. You could print a sheet off of the Internet with some of the symptoms that you’re feeling and highlight them or write them down for the doctor. I’m sure they’ll ask you general health questions (female would be last menstrual period etc) family history of any issues, other symptoms you might be having. Mental health isn’t an only about feelings, there’s a whole lot of biology behind it as well. My friend had serious depression and behavioral issues for years and it turns out it was toxoplasmosis the whole time. (A parasite from a cat). Acetaminophen and some antibiotics cause my daughter to dissociate very badly.
Be honest with your healthcare worker and you’ll solve the puzzle with more ease.

I’m glad you are seeking help to improve your mental health. You could always call a clinic anonymously to ask this info if you want to be 100% sure you understand the process. From what I know, you’ll need a piece of ID and your health care card. They will hand you a sheet to fill out, which includes basic personal info, family medical history, and personal medical history (conditions, medications, allergies). As for confidentiality, in general they will keep your info private as long as you are not a danger to yourself. The law isn’t crystal clear on this point, but most doctors will treat minors over 16 without involving a parent/guardian.
