Wood crafting has been one of the skillful professions in Sri Lanka for many centuries since the country has been home to many known and valuable timber species. The industry initially started with using timber for construction work. Then it gradually evolved in to Wood Crafts, Carvings and to the Modern & Contemporary furniture today.
Sri Lanka has been famous for timber species such as Teak Wood (Tectona grandis), Mahogany (Swietenia microphyla), Para Mar (Samamea saman), Suriyamara (Albizia odoratissima), Satin Wood (Burutha) (Chloroxylon swietenia), Ebony (Diospyros ebenum), Kaluwara, Nedun (Pericopsis mooniana), Calamander (Diospyros quaesita), Halmilla (Berrya cordifolia), Jak (Artocarpus heterophyllus), Kumbuk (Terminalia arjuna) which are used for wood working & cabinetry and hundreds of other timber species that are used for construction work (Doors, Windows, Roofing etc.)
At Alankara Gallery, we mainly use Teak Wood, Mahogany, Para Mara and Suriyamara for the production of our furniture range. Our products range consists of Bedroom Furniture, Living Room Furniture, Dining and Outdoor Furniture. The main specialty of the company is to manufacture Designer Furniture. We design our own furniture and our interior designing team goes to great extents to design unique, Elegant and contemporary furniture.
