  2 curriculums you can check out are Sonlight and My Father's World. Keep in mind that once your children are in a public school, the school has 5 1/2 to 6 hours 5 days per week to undo what you instill including turning them against what you may try to teach. More of their day will be filled with getting to and from school, eating and sleeping leaving little time for your desires for them. This may sound harsh but I have had a couple of friends who have regretted the switch to public

  We used My Father's Wold because of the high tactile elements. They take a multi-sensory approach. There are bumpy foam letters so he can feel the letters. They are high on hands-on activities.   I suggest My Father's World. It is Christian but nondenominational. Combines all learning styles so it feeds all the senses. Great hands on, live books (not as intense as Sonlight) and just enough worksheets. We LOVE IT! www.mfwbooks.com

  Have found that yes a good curriculum is a solid tool but my children have learned much much more from playing geography board games and My father's world countries and culture curriculum was immensely helpful

What I mean by that is I know in public schools they leave out important historical information or change it. I want a curriculum that is historically accurate. "Since my son will be in 1st grade, I may need to go with a workbook. I'm not really sure. I also would like to make it hands-on, so he learns well and remembers what we learn. "Also, I have 2 other children who aren't school age yet, so I would like something that I can reuse to save money.   I did the same thing with my 4 yr.old daughter last year. This Yr.we are in the 1 st grade. I loved the lessons, unit style and she thrived with My Father's World Kindergarten. We are using MFW again this yr. Good luck!
