  We are going through this right now with our shepherd. He has hip displacia and was diagnosed this week with DM.....very sad for our fur babies. I just ordered mine a wheelchair from the marketplace(or handicappedpets.com)

  I don't think this is available locally. I bought my dog's front splint from handicappedpets.com - you can order online and have it delivered to a 3 rd party in the US (something like Johnny Air or similar) that can ship it directly here. The package from handicappedpets isn't big (they shipped it in a pouch and not a box so no excessive packaging) so the shipping shouldn't cost as much.

  Check with handicappedpets.com. They have various aids to help and are really good on the phone. Otherwise, if you sew, try fitting a swimsuit or stronger lycra for the leg area and use pajama footing for the paw. If you cannot find superweight lycra like they use for biking shorts (about 10 oz. weight) try Seattle Fabrics. Make it smaller than her leg so it stretches for support.

For mason. Being so big the cost was about $650.00. ( you can upgrade tires for all terrain ( big fat air filled tires for country terrain ) for a little more or if in town or city you can go with the original wheels. ( hard rubber) hope this helps

  We have yellow lab who is 11 years old. Four years ago, he had a spinal cord injury which effected his hind legs. Within a matter of two hours, he became paralyzed. Our vet was able to rehabilitate him and he became stable on three legs. The fourth leg, he drags. We are looking for a used wheel chair. Does anyone have any resources, or know someone who might be selling one. He still acts like he is 4, but it is hard for him to get around. We want to see him enjoy life again.

Money is extremely tight for me, but I just want what is best for her. he has lost the ability to use her back legs completely. Vet said the likelihood of her coming out of this is pretty much not going to happen. It is evident to us that she is paralyzed mid-waist down and I am just trying to figure some things out in her best interest and providing her with the best care and quality of life that I can possibly give her. She is considered a miniature dachshund. Thank you to anyone who has any advice or been through this before with their dog.   Hi. I'm looking for a custom dog boot manufacturer that might be able to make something that would fit my greyhound who has lost two toes on the same foot. She is walking and weight bearing on the foot just fine and it has healed so I wanted to start running with her again but I am concerned about the last two toes and want to protect them (and also the joint that the vet left on one of the toes.) Has anyone had any success with boots or has anyone had a similar injury with their hound that could give me some advice? If you know of a dog boot/sock maker please link in the comments.   Bonnie Bergstein. I adopted a 10 year old abandoned Bichon 2 years ago. She came to me with a bad back knee, completely shaved down and had bad ear infections and was recovering from severe kennel cough. I love my Mimi - she is the sweetest, smartest dog, and she is a survivor (survived a vicious attack by a neighbors dog). Mimi can get around ok, she sort of trots with both back legs together. She cannot climb or jump. She still loves to go for walks with my other 2 rescue dogs. I was just wondering if anyone knows where I could get a good, heavy duty stroller for Mimi (she weighs 28lbs).? She still wants to walk, but can't always keep up with Bubba and Princess. My vet said that Mimi's kneecap is not attached, but she is used to it, and surgery would probably make it worse. I want to keep her walking, but not overdo, but she wants to be with Bubba and Princess when they go for walks. Mimi, Princess and Bubba Bergstein.

  Don't give up on her yet Michelle. If her health is still pretty good but she is just slowing down and has a bum hip she may still have a couple years left in her. Check out this site. Www.handicappedpets.com There are slings to help them stand or support on stairs or going potty. Or, carts for their back sides if everything else is working fine. And dogs can use some good anti inflammatory meds that help with pain (as opposed to cats.) My old girl used a med called Rimadyl for a few years and it really helped. Good luck with your old gal.

I saw one on a dog once and I wish I had asked the lady where she got it, but now I need one and I can only find really flimsy ones. This one kept the dog's spine straight, had handles so a person could assist the dog up or down from the back, but also gave enough support that the dog could be walked from the front. It had quite a bit of material to it, not just straps and not just a panel underneath the dog's abdomen.

  Great to know we have GREAT people there. I am looking for a doggy wheelchair now. There is a website handicappedpets.com that shows how to make one. If Surgery is not an option time will heal but takes a long time but she needs to not strain it anymore than necessary. I have to do everything I can to make her comfortable while she heals.

The runt male has a deformed useless front leg an his other front leg is not much better. It won't really hold him up, it's in the wrist part that's bad. Thank god my mother dachshund is nursing him and his brother along with me. He is only 1.4 pounds. I carry him everywhere an massage his wrist lots of times a day. I live where there are no vets that will touch this kinda birth defect. If anyone knows how to make a cheap wheelchair, please let me know. Nemo needs my help to have a full life.
