Looking to buy ‘old style’ binoculars as a Christmas gift and would appreciate if anyone can help letting me know what to look for to know they are good. Think he will use them to look at birds and airplanes etc together with a child. Is there a place in Edinburgh where they sell second hand binoculars? Thanks

Try this place on Morningside Road, they have loads of used stock, including binoculars. http://www.cameratiks.co.uk/

If Findlays can't sort it and it's needing repaired / taken apart, parts replaced, the only place in Scotland repairing now are Cameratiks in Edinburgh. They do a good postal service too. So depending what it is, you may be able to save the middle-man. Ask for Patrick. http://www.cameratiks.co.uk/
So I was out in Edinburgh taking photos just now and packed my camera etc away in my bad and didn't notice that the zip was broke! Slung my bag onto my shoulder and scattered my camera and equipment everywhere! My lens is pretty goosed. Where is the best place in Edinburgh to get lenses repaired as I did not take insurance out when I bought my lens :-(
Darren K. replied:
Not sure about that type of damage, but Cameratiks in Morningside have sorted my lens woes out a few times. http://www.cameratiks.co.uk/

Feel your pain....happened to me (in slow motion) with a D7000 a year ago! Cameratiks in Edinburgh although my preference is AJ Johnston in Glasgow if you are going through there.
