  Hi, I am the managing director of Isaan Lawyers. Yes, you can do that without a lawyer. 1) Go to the amphur. They are in charge for that 2) If the amphur needs witnesses, because she has no birth certificate, she might need to go to where she was born and get documents from Poo Yai Ban or others. 3) If her ID is expired from a long time, she might have to go in Bangkok. Because now they are registered in a database and there are digital documents to do. At least, that was the case few years ago. We did a difficult case once: A Thai Lady lived in USA for about 25 years and had no children, didn't renew her card. She asked to help and said had no family...until we found her family !!! At the moment, we can't take a case like that. We are overloaded with several urgent cases. If it is not urgent, and can wait, maybe we can help next month. Jatuporn Sungsakris is a friend and Thai/American. He can also surely help and knows how it is done....But definitely verify with the amphur.

  Hi, we do have translators/interpreters at our office. It depends for what you need it and how long. 13 April is really bad to get an interpreter. It is Songkran. Thai people celebrates in family from 13 to 15 at least. There is a difference if you need a document to be translated, or an interpreter for the Court, or others.   Isaan Lawyers can do what (www.isaanlawyers.com). Call 084 471 5775. But they need to know what is the purpose of it. Some translations need to be notarized, some must be legalized, some only certified. Open Monday to Friday, 9 to 5 pm, closed this week on 25, 26 and 31 December, 1 st and 2 nd January.translation should be 300 baht. If it needs a notary, that is 500 baht per notarial stamp. Legalization is expensive and must go through Bangkok.

  To get a yellow book, you normally need to LEGALIZE your passport. Each Amphur is different and can have its own rules. I did mine few years ago in Korat and it needed to be legalized. According to the national regulation too. That means the translation must go in Bangkok with your original passport, you must sign a power of attorney and it will go to the ministry of foreign affairs. That should cost you about 2,000 or 2,500 baht and take 1 to 2 weeks. Not many translation agencies in Korat will know how to do that. Isaan Lawyers can do it but really tell them you need to Legalize your translation by the ministry of foreign affairs.
