Moms b. asked:Mom Question Anybody have a little boy with ADHD? My son is 3 yo. He has always been extremely active and intelligent. He started walking at 9 mos....and by 11 mos he had figured out how to crawl on to the kitchen cabinets. He is always going. At his well child visit the doctor said that she won't give him an ADHD diagnosis (or treatment) due to his age, but did recommend some reading material for me. To be clear, I asked the doctor, because I had concerns; she didn't bring it up. My husbands' family has a medical history of chemical imbalances, and I wanted to make sure that my son was okay. I am not looking for treatment (per se), just thought there might be diet changes, decispline techniques, etc (tricks of the trade) that had worked for other families. Please be kind. RE:ADHD Hi there, My son is currently 2 years and a half and flags have been raised pretty much since he could walk for ADHD. I have attended parenting courses and sought all the assistance I can find in our local area. I have been informed that he cannot be diagnosed until he is 4 despite having symptoms. He is a fantastic kid with a lovely nature who is just struggling to fit into the category of 'normal' and 'acceptable'. I am in the process of eliminating Salicylates from his diet. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what next? Is there any organisations/psychologist that specialise in this type of thing? We would be happy to travel to Brisbane or the Gold Coast if something is available. I am finding it hard to seek support when he hasn't been diagnosed. I have been looking at the resources on the 'Everyday With Add' website. Can anyone recommend these? Just know there are many different ways to treat adhd symtoms. Accommodations through a 504 at school is sometimes enough, and if not enough, helpful anyway. Feingol d diet is a popular treatment for adhd, especially young kids, because it works! After making adjustments we still were unhappy with his afternoon behavior. He would crash & have extreme mood swings, fall asleep frequently, etc. After thanksgiving break we decided to keep him off of it. His current neurologist won't discuss other options outside of this 1 med so we're seeking a second opinion. He has an appt for next Friday, the 19th. I'm getting bad reports & emails home every day on him. He talks when he's not suppose to, won't stay on his seat & exhibits impulsive behavior. I don't know what his teacher expects me to do.... I've started having him get up early and run to release some energy. I feel bad for him because he can't control him yet he keeps getting in trouble, but also bad for the teacher because they gave to deal with the behavior. She's also not giving me any suggestions. He has a weighted lap pillow which is suppose to help him stay seated. We've done rewards for good behavior/punishments for poor behavior. Anyone know what I can try next?Nikki C. replied:Sounds just like my son. Rewards and punishments never worked, and we tried EVERYTHING.
