We have a 6 year old lab that was a rescue dog. My kids have never had a puppy or kitten to train and bring up themselves. My kids are 11, 13 & 16 so I think they would really enjoy it. I was thinking of a small breed, and not too particular about what breed. I have been sending enquires about litters and they are up to $2000. I am a single mum and while we can give a pet a very loving home I can't possible afford that amount of money. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestion of where I would be able to get a puppy from near to Christmas that isn't going to require me to remortgage my house ☺️ Thank you in advance.Allison F. replied:I found it hard to find small breed dogs at RSPCA in the ACT for some reason - not impossible, but hard. Pups can be terribly hard work, especially if you have young children. There are stacks of younger dogs with rescue or in the pound. Something around a year to 18 months will be past the house training and needly toothed play bitey stage. Pound dogies are more often than not pups that can't be reunited with their owners as the chip details are not up to date They are not broken or bad dogs as many perceive them to be, just victims of circumstance. I know, I have 4 - all of them - a boxer, a frenchie X, a Maltese and a shitzu are all Just perfect with children. Try www.petrescue.com.au many perfect family members in waiting on this site.
