To date I've probably recommended and sent, I don't know, maybe 30 people to see Donnie Kelly at Leon's on Friendly in Greensboro (across from the former Ham's). I'm a guy, so my hair doesn't take much, but every woman I know who sees him just completely loves him. He's had a big and illustrious career as a stylist, including very high-end work for Sebastian in New York. Now he lives here, works at Leons, and teaches at Leon's Beauty School. A surprising number of the stylists in Greensboro were trained by Donnie. It's almost impossible to walk in and get in his chair, but if you can book an appointment a couple weeks out, he's super easy to see. He's AWESOME.

Adrian's Hair Sculpture on S. Marshall st. in Winston Salem. The owner has trained at Jingles in the UK and under Paul Mitchell in New York. He is the best I've ever been to and his colorist is excellent as well. As far as prices go, he's more in line with what you are used to back home.

I go to Courtney Cope at C Style & Co. They're in Winston-Salem, so it's a little drive from GSO (30 minutes give or take depending on where in GSO you're coming from), but I'd say she's worth it! Her prices are very, very fair! She's extremely knowledgeable about what she's doing and can do everything from perms for the little old ladies to highlights to crazy stuff like my Half shaved, half undershaved bright red mop! In GSO, I've always heard Indigo Salon on Pisgah Church Road is good. I've been there for waxing before (so I can tell ya they are awesome for that! My esthetician was Heather Irish.) but never for my hair, so I can only say I've heard they're good. My girl is Erica Brady at RUM Z Salon off of Horse Pen Creek/New Garden. She is the best stylist I've experienced in Greensboro and I've been to SEVERAL. Been with her for the past 2 years. She's a dear friend of mine too. She is passionate about hair and constantly striving to learn more, which is something I really admire. I think she's an artist in what she does, truly. I like my hair to look natural and healthy and she does an AMAZING job at helping me with that. I have long hair and get highlights, but she always knows when to add some lowlights and keep it from getting damaged. I seriously love this woman. (PS. I've been to Indigo, I've been to Chakras, my mom has been to a zillion, I've been to so freaking many... Progressions... gosh so many. But once you find that person who listens to you and does what you want and makes you feel and look amazing... it's just awesome. And Erika did that for me. And her prices are reasonable, unlike my experience at Indigo, Progressions, and Chakras.) Good luck!
