check hotwire.com we got amazing deals on a vehicle both times... we also got a gorgeous 1 bdrm condo in Wailea for 110$ a night... we loved Kihei too... it has the best/sunniest weather in comparison to other parts of the Island...

Car rentals are not cheap in Maui. If you have a Costco card, you can save some through Costco travel. Don't let them upsell you. You can also use your insurance from AB, just contact your company first and take a current pink card with you. We just got back.

Didn't love Kihei, it has more of a retirement community feeling. Lahaina has a bit younger of a feeling. We stayed at The Lahaina shores, (http://www.vrbo.com/.../west-maui/lahaina/lahaina-shores). The old lahaina luau is supposed to be one of the better ones. i know it's not really what you asked for, but after two nights in Kiehei, we were really glad we switched sides of the island
