I use Start Communications also and have never once been disappointed. It's a good rate and unlimited internet and the speed is good too!
Marie M. replied:
I am biased working for Start Communications but do check us out www.start.ca/services/highspeed
Scott M. replied:
Start Communications all the way. I have been with them since I moved to London, and have never been disappointed. Have recommended them a few times, and everyone who has used them has been very happy.
Scott M. replied:
Leona Disabato, head on over to www.start.ca to check out the packages available.
Marie M. replied:
Leona A quick comparison between Rogers and Start. Rogers most common package is their highspeed express 25Mbps download, 2Mbps upload 80GB usage (they track download and upload data) by their website price before modem rental and taxes is $54.99. Start Communications Standard Cable Internet 25Mbps download, 2Mbps upload 150GB usage (we only count download data) {this package also has an unlimited download window between 2:00 am and 8:00 am that is not counted towards the usage allowance} monthly price $50.79 including the modem rental and taxes.
Who uses Virgin for their home internet? Is it worth it? What other options do I have? Looking for a new internet provider. I’m frugal so I like to save as much as I...
TheMonkeyMafia replied:
Start.ca Virgin is just a Bell brand

Good deal from Fido right now. 75 down, unlimited for $32.50/month for a year. [https://www.fido.ca/pages/#/internet](https://www.fido.ca/pages/#/internet)

I'm with National Capital FreeNet (NCF). All plans unlimited and a speed of 10-down,1-up is fast enough for this house at only $30.95 + tax. They've actually dropped the price since I joined! [https://www.ncf.ca/ncf/registration/dsl/](https://www.ncf.ca/ncf/registration/dsl/) If you're in community housing, it's only $25/month. Free dial-up if you're really frugal!
chozzington replied:
Old thread but we've had nothing but issues with Virgin. Frequent disconnects every 15 minutes or so, slow speed and were initially lied to about which modem we would get. We've been through 4 modems in less than a year and the issues are still present. The only good thing about them is that the price is decent compared to Bell or Cogeco.

Virgin is Bell, and Bell is evil. Avoid!

Try tekksavy

I tried to sign up with Virgin once. They said I needed to be home so I did. Waited two hours until I called them, only to find out the tech came realised their wires were fucked and left without telling me. They also thought it was reasonable for me to wait a month for them to come back to repair in a month.
scareika replied:
I have been with virgin for more than a year now. My cell phone too. Absolutely love it! I had my brother-in-law who works for Bell install everything.
letsmakeart replied:
I've had it for 14 months now and never had any issues! I liked it over Tekksavy because with Virgin you don't need to provide your own router, they supply you with one.
warj23 replied:
I use Virgin for home internet and mobile phone. They have a sub agreement with Bell and use Bell's infrastructure. I have had them for a few years and have no complaints. At the time, their packages were all about $10 cheaper per month versus Bell's equivalent offerings. No contract, and modem is provided.
the_mangobanana replied:
With them as well for the last 6 months or so. Good rates, no issues so far.
holysmokesiminflames replied:
I tried signing up with Virgin because the internet speeds looked great. I live in Nepean and the fastest internet connection they could get me was 25 mbps. The only way I could find out was by calling and having them type in my address manually. Go with Fido with the $32.50 promotion.... Free activation and modem/ router is included
Rural internet? Hi everyone, not having much luck with finding reliable internet. Reside NW of Peterborough in hwy 7/Fowler’s Corners area. I have had Cable Cable,...
sippingonalightbeer replied:
Hey, what aspect of Xplornet did you hear is terrible? I am not a customer, and I have not heard anything good or bad, but I am a few Km from you, and they were the only company who could get me a faster speed than what I currently have (nexicom). They came out and checked the area for signal, etc. At the end of the day, I decided not to go with them, because the increase in speed was not that much more than what I was using now, and they would have had to install a tower on my building (because I am down in a valley).
I hear a lot of companies are "terrible", but it's based on their interaction with customer service, not the product itself. If that's the case, I would give them a try. If the internet itself is terrible, unreliable, etc...then that's a much different story.
Unfortunately I don't know of any other services in the area.

Have you tried Nexicom? They're a local company, so if anyone was going to cover your area...

Cable cable has improved a lot. They've been laying fiber down all over the Kawarthas.
thatsimonis replied:
I've just been researching alternatives to Cogeco actually, [Start](www.start.ca) has great rates but I believe they are on Cogeco's lines so you may be SOL where you are, worth checking availability though. [TekSavvy](www.teksavvy.ca) is another option in the Peterborough area you didn't list so you could try them, and [Nexicom](http://nexicom.net/internet/wireless) has options for rural customers (wireless towers) but speed may be an issue. Hope that helps Edit: I know you mentioned Nexicom was a no go twice, just figured I'd put the wireless thing out there anyway in case you had zero other options. 3 or 10 mps is better than no mps. haha
DarylInDurham replied:
WISP is aggressively expanding their network in the Kawartha and P'Bo areas. Even though they didn't work out for you at the moment they may be able to provide you service in your area soon. I suggest giving them a call and see if they can give you an ETA. And yes, Xplornet is as awful as you have heard. If you get cell service you can also try a mobile data solution from Rogers, Bell, or Telus. That's what I use (I'm rural in Bethany); I've had good connectivity but it gets stupid-expensive when you have usage exceeding 100 GB per month.

I've been with TekSavvy for years and have been very happy with them. Their rates are very good and they're very diligent about warning of scheduled outages. Their customer service and tech support people are very friendly & knowledgeable. Like Start, they are a 3 rd party provider using Rogers. They're having a promotion in June for new customers. https://teksavvy.com/ontario-hp-en

I have primus and despite their customer service being the worst I’ve ever encountered, and taking over a month to get set up, it works. I’ve had it for two and a half years and it has worked perfectly with no problems. I pay $41.75 after tax for 7 mbps. If being cheap is your biggest concern then this should be alright.
finalPostnull replied:
Teksavvy is typically available in any area that servesRogers cable (they use their cable lines to provide you service). You can get a quote from TekSavvy than reach out to Rogers and use that to get a better rate, they will undercut Teksavvy for you. edit: words

If it's new, you'll probably find the place has coax for rogers cable & fibre for bell ... Which means you can only get TPIA over the rogers cable. Otherwise you have to get bell for fibre.
