If you're a specialist doctor, how often do you need to ask for a new GP referral? Is there a rule? Does anybody know?
#hellomynameis D. replied:
These are the Medicare requirements https://www.humanservices.gov.au/health-professionals/subjects/referrals-under-medicare
#hellomynameis D. replied:
Can do indefinite referrals https://www.humanservices.gov.au/health-professionals/enablers/education-guide-indefinite-referrals-what-you-need-know (some specialists don't like them)
Dr G. replied:
Only if new condition. Ongoing Mxof same condition not equal to initial consult as per Medicare.

Dr Deon Smit in Burwood is very good. Off Springvale Rd near the crossing of Burwood Highway & Springvale Rd. Bulk billing. I think the name of it is Burwood Medical Centre. You don't have to make an appointment: first come first serve. Note: he doesn't work every day. Rudy goes to him & very happy. Will get the number from Rudy and forward it to you.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a good doctor for Emily? It's time for us to leave her pediatrician, since she's 18.
Jan A. replied:
Dr. Charles Stewart III, Indiatlantic, 321-984-1333. Health first. He has been my Dr. Since 1991 and Jamie's since 1994 when she was born. Feel free to use my name, recommended you
Amy E. replied:
I really like Dr. Janie Geracie. VERY short waits, wonderful bedside manners and three locations: Viera, Rockledge, and Merritt Island. I've been to all three locations. She's with Partners in Womens' Health. http://www.ucomparehealthcare.com/drs/janie_geraci/
Any recommendations for psychologists/counsellors in Melbourne Can anybody recommend a psychologist/counsellor ideally in the inner south and south Eastern suburbs....
IIIRuin replied:
The best person to ask is your doctor. If you regularly see them and they are halfway decent they will be able to rec someone that you are more likely to click with.
Reddituser0346 replied:
You can also use the Australian Psychological Society's Find a Psychologist service, which will find psychs for you on the basis of suburb, areas of specialization (like anxiety) and whether they bulkbill.
eifos replied:
Mine is in Ferntree Gully so that's no help but to find her I just googled clinics in Melbourne that accept the mental health care plan and looked through lists. Most clinics have profiles up of their psychologists so you can read about their interests and specialities. A lot also have photos up which I found helpful since I was looking for a woman who was not too much older than me. Your doctor should be able to recommend someone to you as well, though the one I was recommended to was terrible so I was annoyed I wasted one of my free visits on her.

I recommend Clare O'Bree. She operates out of Malvern and I know she has an opening or two at the moment. She was my counselor for a few years and really helped with my depression. She cost $150 per session (very standard) and you get $125 back through medicare.

Dr. Benezra at Benezra Women’s Care on hibiscus. I was very hesitant to going to a male gyno (I’ve always been to females) but he’s got AMAZING bedside manners and very gentle when it comes to those wonderful Pap smears. My mom had been having some issues with her lady parts and health and been to multiple ob’s over the years and she went to him and he found out she was filled with fibroids and immediately did a hysterectomy and had been helping her immensely with other issues. Highly highly recommend giving him a chance.
LaurenFantastic replied:
Dr. Benezra has been mine and he’s wonderful. He sent me to an oncologist instead of guessing what could be going on. Turns out, stage 1 cervical cancer, but thanks to Benezra we caught it earlier rather than later.

I love Dr. Jackson at Health First for OBGYN. She’s amazing. Fair warning though, they do make you rotate providers once you’re further along in your pregnancy so that you know whomever is on call when you deliver. For PCP, Jayde George has been amazing, also at Health First.

Not Fosters Womens Care, they're awful.

Dr. Dilley for pcp in viera and Dr. Jackson i believe is still at health first as an Obgyn. She delivered my second baby and was absolutely amazing!

Well the best primary care doctor in Brevard is Dr. Allen Condo at Health First in Palm Bay. I moved up to the Cocoa area years ago and still take the drive down there. He's very smart, funny, honest and great at his job. Sometimes you wait 30 mins in a room to see him because he really spends time talking to his patients vs going quickly and misdiagnosing.
TheGingerAvenger92 replied:
I see NP Boersma at Riverside Family Health as my PCP. She's amazing - the doctor there however, is not. I saw him for my annual as she was out of town and...well, I almost left the practice due to his disgusting bedside manner. I also see Hibiscus Womens Care - not Center! Dr. Perry and her midwives are amazing. I switched late in my last pregnancy almost six years ago and I'm still SO impressed with them.
sincerelylondo replied:
Dr. Tobia at Health First OBGYN. They are a group clinic, so you sadly can't really decide who you will deliver with... you kind of get stuck with who is on call when you go into labor. I also heard Dr. Close is great at that location as well.
tbd2233 replied:
Another recommendation for the Andersons for PCP. I see Dr. Julie and my husband sees Dr. Thomas Anderson. Also another vote for Hibiscus Women’s Center - the one near HRMC (Holmes Regional Medical Center). They have wonderful CNMs, and I believe 3 OBs, and then Nurse Practitioners that primarily see GYN patients.
Corvus_Caelestis replied:
Avoid Dr. Edwin Hayes on NASA Rd. He tried to play guess my ethnicity in the middle of an exam based on my puss and completely confused me with another patient at a pre-surgery consultation, saying I needed a completely different procedure. I sought a second opinion and as soon as they did a records request, his office promptly sent a notice that I was no longer welcome. Dr. Javier Soto is an amazing cutter, he is quite good with robotic and minimally invasive surgery, but he has a terrible bedside manner and I would not recommend as your go to yearly exam guy.

I got lucky when I moved here I needed a new OB/GYN for birth control. I am so grateful I found Alanna Colon-Goncalves on Merritt Island (works inside the office of Aimee Raup). She is an advanced nurse practitioner, certified nurse midwife, and fantastic caring and thorough healthcare provider who takes time to answer questions and explain things. We are starting the transition from birth control to planning our family, and I intend to stay with her even though we live closer to Palm Bay now.

Mark Mctammany for obgyn!! He’s absolutely amazing. And Sarah Turse for primary, though she usually has a wait to get in for the initial.

If you are on the central/north side of Brevard: Dr Jamie Burrows for OBGYN. Dr Maria Torres is also great PCP but her staff are a hot mess...so take that with a grain of salt.

if you do not need OB services just GYN services Dr Benezra is the greatest GYNo in the area - attentive, knowledgeable, caring and pro patient!

Victor Benezra has the best hands in the business from what I hear from the medical community.
As far as PCP, I really like Thomas Anderson and his wife, they are near Wickham park on Wickham rd. Not sure if they are taking new patients.

I'm currently getting prenatal care at Hibiscus Women's Center, but I used them for OBGYN prior to pregnancy as well. They are great and very evidence based, with a mixture of midwives, doctors, nurse practitioners, etc. They do most labs and ultrasounds in house, which is convenient, and they're all very nice although some will take more time with you than others.
