Well, if she's not so into the natural birth side of the spectrum she might find some of the folks there off-putting, but you can start with Blossom Birth in Palo Alto. Hospital stats are easily looked up: there are only 4 or 5 hospitals in San Mateo county, but the SF county hospitals are pretty close to San Mateo and Stanford or UCSF are the ones for high risk. If this is a first baby, I highly recommend childbirthconnection.org 's general tips for choosing a care provider. They're committed to evidence based health care, and I'm a fan of evidence.
