The best oncologist that we found out about is Dr. Clifford at Hope Veterinary Specialist. We met people as far as FL and NY there to see him. He is in Malvern and his # is 610-296-2099. We took our Greyhound to him and she went into remission. He's not cheap but is well worth the money.

CARES in Langhorne (near Sesame Place). Dr Jenn Biaz is THE BEST!!!! She treated my Nina after her osteo diagnosis. I HIGHLY recommend her & the rest of the oncology staff there. PM me if you want more info.

Lisa Donato - There is a map with your post that implies you are seeking a dog sitter in Seattle, WA... but you posted in a New Jersey greyhound group. Where are your greyhounds (who need a sitter)? I’m so confused.

Vets are usually the most expensive for boarding and only really necessary if your dogs have complex medical and medication needs. We use an in home dog sitter as first option. We've used friends, or vet techs from Our vet's office, or from a pet sitting service. Our second favorite type of option is in someone else's home. There is a franchise called "flip flop pet sitting" which is awesome, because they are fully bonded and insured in the event your dog destroys something in the pet sitter's house. And in Philadelphia there was a lady called Mary Pawpins. Just do a Google search in your area, or call some local groomers or vet offices for names. My dogs just never crate well so I can't use traditional boarding because there is so much crate time.

I'm not sure where your from, but Tip Top Kennels in Vineland comes highly recommend. They are a rescue for German Shepherds and are truly dog lovers.

My Will has stayed at Greyhound Angels twice now I think (once in pennsauken and once in Millville). He had a great time. He like totally didn't even look up when I got there this last time. I was happy he was with other greyhounds and people who for sure 'know' greyhounds ❤️

I'm not sure where you are located but we have a few good vets close to the kennel. I use Dr. Ritter at All Paws in Mays Landing (almost an hour drive but I trust her completely - she's taken care of my greyhound for 15 years). There is also Dr. Banks in Vineland, he has greyhounds of his own. There is (I think) a list of greyhound savvy vets pinned on this page.

Hi Leah, Lily has been seeing Dr. Goedeke and Dr Driben Jr at Burl-Moor-Driben (http://www.bmdvets.com) in Moorestown, NJ for many years and, they are extremely Greyt savy and did Lily's teeth two years ago (only time she's ever got her teeth done). Both of them have owned greyhounds in the past. The whole staff there are friendly, professional and I can only say great things about them. Our experience isn't with happy tail but We opted to have 5 inches amputated because of a growth. I have used Sea Girt Animal hospital for years. My vet felt because the tail is such a difficult thing to stitch, an amputation lets them create a better closure. If they had tried to remove the tumor there basically wouldn't have been enough skin to close the wound. Absolutely good thing to get second opinion. Sorry my input isn't happy tail!

Oh yes, we've been through this! Eventually we did go with the amputation and I wish we had done it a lot sooner. If this is your first go-round with it, it's absolutely worth trying to get it to heal. The grassmere method of bandaging works quite well. Be careful to not wrap the bandage too tightly, it's very easy to compromise the little circulation they have in their tail. In our case, we were able to get the tail to heal and all would be well for a few weeks - maybe even a couple of months- but then he'd bust it open again and we'd have to start all over (and scrub the walls AGAIN). What pushed us to amputation was the tip became necrotic and something *had* to be done. The vet at Red Bank Animal Hospital gave us the choice of only taking a few inches off to clear the dead tissue or going with a "once and done" tail docking. The latter was his preference, he said he finds that if you only take a little off, you often end up having to take more off down the road since they often continue to injure it. He took of almost the whole tale, leaving just enough for "modesty" (ie, his butt-hole is covered). We had a much needed dental done at the same time. He looks a bit silly but he's adjusted to it just fine. He even learned how to wag that little stump:-) If I had to do it again, I wouldn't have waited so long. Like I said, do give it a fair chance to heal but if it won't or if it keep coming back, amputation is not as bad as it first seems. http://www.grassmere-animal-hospital.com/happy_tail_bandaging.htm

You can keep it covered with 1/4 inch pipe insulation. You must keep checking the bandage and skin to make sure that there is not infection. Bandage the tail, then tape the insulation to the bandage. It won't hold if you tape it to the fur. We kept Idol in this type of bandage for 6 weeks until she healed her tail. It must be protected until it is fully healed or it will open up again. We were very happy with North Star. It is a specialty, referral hospital. A little more reasonable than Red Bank.

I would definitely take him to NorthStar for a consultation. It is a specialty hospital that is not over the top in cost. They are awesome!! It may be a bit of a hike for you, but they are well worth the distance! http://www.northstarvets.com

I use Shark River Veterinary Hospital on Rte 33 in Neptune. Very satisfied with them. My 3 greyhounds (2 current and 1 former) have gone there - including dentals - with no problems. You can Google them and see their website.

We are pretty far South but Dr Pieretti at the Humane Society of Atlantic County Vet Services is very greyhound savy as is Dr Banks in Vineland.

We only just got our dog but so far we love our vet Dr. Hussein at Howell animal hospital....as soon as he walked in he started educating us about all the ways greyhounds are different than other dogs and its clear that he really knows his stuff. We were there for almost an hour and he happily answered every little question we had. On top of that the staff all LOVE our boy and gave him all the pets when we got there and made him (and us) feel really comfortable.
