Has anyone replaced their exterior siding lately and can recommend a contractor? Ballpark of what it cost would be helpful too so I can have something in mind when...

We had Hardiplank siding put in 5 years ago by Preferred Siding. It's fiber cement board which looks more like wood but is moisture and pest resistant (no worry about termites or woodpeckers). The colors are part of the composite material so no painting needed either. Both my dad and father-in-law steered us to it, which says a lot :). Costs more but will last much longer than vinyl or wood. Steve, from Preferred Siding was great to work with, the crews were great. There is more info about the materials on their website. http://www.preferredsiding.com/

Century Siding -- 703.263.1933 -- did our siding, gutters, replaced sliding doors, wrapped our trim and replaced a couple of basement windows for the same amount others quoted for just the siding.

We've used Shiner Roofing(1-888-570-6141) on 2 of our houses for roofing, siding and windows and all of our experiences with them were exceptional. They also were always very reasonably priced.
Reston/Herndon people - I need a contractor/handyman to knock out a few small jobs in my house - small section of tile, drywall repair and painting. Anyone know "a guy"...

This guy is my next door neighbor and the work he did on this house (before we bought it and after our home inspection) appears to be top-notch. The previous owners told us "if anything goes wrong, just call Jean. He's the man." https://plus.google.com/104719238896214361132/about?gl=us&hl=en

My parents have used NVS Kitchen and Bath to get multiple kitchens remodeled (we moved a lot). Some won awards so I'm assuming that means they did a good job. www.nvsrd.com Very high-end stuff, but I'd recommend contacting them. Seems like they'll do anything you ask.

I sell cabinets and counters to a bunch of contractors who I know and work with on a daily basis. Give me until tomorrow and I'll give you 3 or 4 quality, fair contractors.

Join Angie's List. It is well worth the membership. You are able to read reviews, see what people paid for similar services, and often get coupons that more than pay for the membership itself.
