Modern plumbing put a different one in for me. I can open with a tool, and I'm a weakling. They had to move some of the pipe for it to fit in the space...hence the reason they put it in instead of me. I bought the filter from Falls Plumbing supply in IF. It has a metal screen in it and is easy to work with. They can show you your options I'm sure.

I don't have any ideas about the filter or tool itself but if you decide to have someone take a look at it, we have had Modern Plumbing out to our place on many occasions and I have always been super impressed with them. Good luck!

Kent and I are the service plumbers for Modern plumbing & heating. Sometimes those can be a pain in the butt to take off. These are the whole house filters that we install and with these type of filters, you can clean them by opening the valve and flushing it out. Here are the whole house filter wrenches. You can also buy them from standard plumbing. Feel free to give us a call if you need help.
