Best you can do is go on booking.com or hotels.com etc and see what is left and at what price. The trouble is so many guest houses are becoming almost permanent houses for the homeless because its steady income for them rather than ad hoc night here night there tourists. Premier Inn and Holiday Inn usual have some deals available but are in southampton rather than in Totton

Thanks everyone. Unfortunately Hamble Retreat is a bit more than they want to spend although gorgeous looking. The navigator is fully booked and I've emailed Four Winds and Jolly Farmer.

Jolly Farmer has just had a refit and the rooms look lovely. Newtown road also has a b&b and there is one at Park Gate. Sadly a lot of the ones I used for my wedding have since closed.
