I run a nonprofit animal sanctuary and for holistic needs, we go to Southampton Pet Hospital, Ltd. Otherwise, we take our small animals to https://www.facebook.com/1734235176855746Happy Tails Animal Hospital they know how to handle the animals in a safe and kind manner. Their doctors are knowledgeable, not pushy and their prices are reasonable. We went to another local vet (and I'm honestly, not sure why so many people like them). There was no vet tech (twice) and the vet made my volunteers hold down our dog. And then the vet ended up sedating him because our dog got so freaked out.... which added to our bill. We have not gone back and are very pleased with Happy Tails.

Everyone on our staff is "Fear Free" certified, meaning that we will initially take things slowly and allow your pet(s) to become comfortable visiting - hopefully also creating a less stressful visit for you. Our doggy has allergies too. Our vet said that it's ok to give the dog benedryl. We do. Three per day with a treat. Also search for the allergy shampoo at Pet Co in The Nut Tree Plaza. After the shower we put Scalpacin on the itchy spots on her back and belly. We'll also do a combination of antifungal cream and hydrocortisone cream. The cream must be done daily. The allergy shampoo once a week.

If you don't mind going to Fairfield, the Albern Pet Clinic is very reasonable. We went for several years with all our pets. It's a no frills place, just the vet. His prices are lower then anywhere, even the shot clinics that travel around. He is a good vet. If you call, you have to call in the morning, I think he does his surgery in the afternoon, so he does not answer the phone. (Albern Pet Clinic, 1320 Texas St. Fairfield CA, 707-426-4710) It's by Allen Witt Park.

We used Vaca Valley Vet by Alamo Plaza. Dr. Jassar actually loves animals. He pets them and talks to them during the exam and explains things well to me. Never tries to guilt me into additional expenses like other places have. I don't think they email - at least two years ago they didn't - but the office staff is great.

Dr. Jassar at Vaca Valley. Takes GREAT care of my pups.

We use Vaca Valley Vet by Alamo Plaza too, and ditto what Jan Maguire said about Dr. Jassar. Just had Lea there this morning with high temp and after tests, re-hydration, anti-biotics kick-off (till the labs report on blood test), etc., she's eating, drinking and generally feeling lots better than last couple days. My friend in Napa brings her show dogs to him as well.

Dr Singh at Family Pet Hospital! He is so sweet with my dogs and prices are very fair!
Cheryl C. replied:
Fairfield animal hospital. I love Dr. Heit. He is awesome. And I like the fact when we come for things that we don't need to see the Dr for we just pay for why we are there like vaccines or nail trims. If you see the Dr. with 3 dogs it's still the same if you came in with 1.
I'm looking for a good veterinarian in Vacaville. Preferably one who is more on the holistic/minimalist vaccine side. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
Gina G. replied:
Dr Heit he's in Fairfield but very close to VV, off clay bank, love him, have had him for 17 years, doesn't pressure u on anything, well maybe antibiotics when they have big infection, I stopped vaccinating my cats because I personally think it's a hype after a while and they never contracted or had leukemia etc, they passed away at age 17 of "old age" good luck!

pinupinprocess replied:
I got my dogs teeth cleaned at Family Friends Vet Hospital for $299. He didn’t have any extractions, but they told me if he were to it’s between $25-$50 depending on the tooth.
Mikey_Mayhem replied:
Never heard of an estimate that high. I'd switch vets because sounds like they're trying to fuck you.
movingtosac replied:
I used the Natural Pet Tooth fairy after getting a crazy quote from my vet. They did a great job and it was 195, but I have a little dog. May be more over a certain weight. They will let you know if teeth need additional care from a vet such as an extraction/loose teeth, etc.
youcantunfrythings replied:
That's the price you tend to get if your dog needs a number of extractions. My dog needed ten teeth removed a couple years ago and it ended up costing me about $1500. It was almost physically painful to spend that money, but she had an abscess in her jaw and there was no getting around it.
highenergycompound replied:
Definitely shop around. We got a similar quote from Sacramento Animal Hospital, which apparently is the ducati of vets or something, went to another vet and even with a couple extractions it was less than $500. We've been going to Midtown Animal Clinic in Davis since it's near work for me and they've been great. Reasonably priced and worked with us to arrange time and payments that we could afford.
kiranlovesyou replied:
I've heard good things about Animal Care Clinic of Woodland, both in terms of care and pricing
prettytortoises replied:
Seconding the Natural Pet Tooth Fairy, they charge about $200 for non anesthetic teeth cleaning. I have also had very high quotes from my vet. Shop around for anesthesia teeth cleaning as some vets charge way more.
UnnecessaryQuoteness replied:
To be honest a lot of vets try to pull this shit & most of the time it's totally unnecessary. Is there an actual dental problem or do they just look "dirty"? Bear in mind that dogs have evolved not to brush their teeth, so most of it may just be cosmetic and not actually necessary for health reasons. I would shop around a couple of grooming or boarding places and see if they will do a cleaning, OR just go to the pet store and get some brushing supplies & cleaning chew treats. It may take a couple of sessions if you do it yourself but you can get those teeth looking pretty clean for a fraction of the cost.
CallMeParagon replied:
Jesus... Our dog just had his teeth cleaned at Douglas Blvd Vet Clinic is Roseville for $345. But his teeth are in great shape... Does your dog need difficult extractions, or is it truly just a cleaning?
Azh_adi replied:
These prices I'm seeing here for simple cleanings are insane.... Literally just use an old tooth brush and some basic paste and brush softly like once a week.
