Leisure centres are run by the council – cheap and cheerful. I take swimming lessons at Easton Leisure Centre. If you have health insurance, some of them have gym discounts for places such as Nuffield, David Lloyd.

Go for henbury if you can go in off peak times. Otherwise bannatynes but still expensive

Well that rules out 1RM which doesn't have cardio. The Norton gym is mainly a bodybuilding gym but actually has some pretty cool cardio equipment that you won't find anywhere else. Anytime Fitness is good if you're centrally located. I think you can pay as you go at any of them to see if you like them. Gosling's has a pool but pricier.
