I know you stated that you did not want a restaurant with a closed room but I will highly suggest Paparazzi located in Lafayette Village. We did the Sunday Brunch for my bridal shower which includes endless mimosas and a Bloody Mary Bar. Since I had family and friends coming in from out of town, this worked really nice to have the Bachelorette party on Friday night, recover on Saturday and the bridal shower on Sunday. They also cater. http://www.paparazziraleigh.com/

Youngsville Wine Shop. They do private events. The shop is quaint. In a very old building lots of character.
For a unique shower check out Clayfusion. Com at the Factory. There's Serendipity Sweet Shop next door for your sweet pallet and Clayfusion has a private party room or you may use the whole studio after hours. Anything you choose to paint will be food safe so you'll create functional art that you can enjoy or gift to the guest of honor.

I don't know if they would but there are a few cute places in downtown WF that would be neat.....Ollie's, The Lemon Tree, and it sounds crazy but Sweeties candy shop said they have parties. Kinda cool environments and local! Boondocks in Youngsville is pretty too.

Jessica at Happily Ever After in Raleigh was my wedding coordinator last year and I LOVED her!! She was very reasonable priced and the support and coordination she provided was amazing. As for contact at a venue, if you let me know which venue, I might know someone there.
