Hi Rebecca, Just saw your post because Rebecca Rainey mentioned me in it. My name is Olivier Materne and I am the farrier at HOOFACTION, LLC. About the old abscess tact, if it has not closed up over at least a year it is most likely because there is low grade residual infection still in it. If the infection is not completely stopped and dried up aggressively it will never heal. Your farrier will have to pare the sole very clean and reopen the abscess. I personally like Epsom salt soaking before dressing it with Epsom salt poultice in a water proof wrapping every day for 3 days. Remember the foot HAS TO remain absolutely clean during the entire treatment. You are essentially treating an infected wound. I would then follow up with sugardine dressing for several more days, still in a good clean dressing. Once the infection is completely dried up your horse will need to be shod at least temporarily in order to protect the sole with a pad and some medicated packing until the abscess tract completely closes up and the sole gets thicker. That can take up to 3 months. I have treated many TB feet and from your description of your mare’s feet, I think that she can benefit greatly from being shod on a regular basis with the proper shoeing. I love barefooters with good solid feet, but it doesn’t seem that your mare is a good candidate for that live style. A good barefooter farrier should be able to advise you further on that. Believe me it is not hopeless and good luck HOOFACTION, LLC www.hoofaction.com919-703-6300Hoofaction59@gmail.com Hi Rebecca, Just saw your post because Rebecca Rainey mentioned me in it. My massage therapist thinks I need zumba shoes in lieu of tennis shoes while doing zumba. Your thoughts Tracy Thomas Kepler and anyone else who participates in zumba?
Tracey K. replied:
Nicole, yes shoes are very important. I'll post some links to some good ones. Zumba brand shoes are available at Foot Locker or online at Zumba.com. Ryka and Reebok also make great dance shoes. You want something with very low tread or flat soles and a pivot point on the shoe is even better.
Tracey K. replied:
I love my Reeboks. They are my favorite. The Dance UR Lead is great! http://www.amazon.com/Reebok-Womens-Dance-Solar-White/dp/B008GVNESA/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1389707284&sr=8-2&keywords=reebok+dance+ur+lead

Looking to buy a new pair of running shoes. This will be only the second pair of real running shoes I have bought. Suggestions on favorite store to buy shoes. Thanks!
Shannon G. replied:
After failed attempts w several I landed my favorite with Lee at Omega Sports. He's the only one that appears to know more than just "pronation" and arch support.
Ken P. replied:
I agree with Lee and Glenn--as long as it is a running specialty store, you will be probably be fine--and the difference between them will be more dramatic based on the salesperson than the store. Here's what I would suggest: Go to TWO stores. Pick one and go with the idea that you will select a shoe, but NOT buy it (yet). Make sure you get to run in a few pairs. (Some stores will let you run on the sidewalk outside; some not. Just make sure you get a running motion; not just walking.) Then, on a different day at a different time, go to a different store. Try to temporarily forget your prior decision, and see if you come up with the same choice. Why a different day and a different time? Well, our feet change/swell/etc....especially from morning to evening. If possible, make sure at least one of your test runs are at the time of day you will run. That is, if you are going to be doing long morning runs, don't make your decision based on one visit to the store in the evening. Also, most of us get a running shoe size that is 0.5 to 1.0 larger than our normal (dress) shoe size. Of course you don't want it to rub do to too much movement, but you want plenty of space for your toes--so that you aren't slamming the ends of your toes into the front of the shoe with every step. Lastly--assume that you won't get it perfect as there is no perfect shoe decision. You'll have another chance to see what you like in 300 or so miles, and by then, the shoe manufactures will have new/changed models; they are always changing much to our frustrations once we find a model we really like. And look for promotions. Inside-Out Sports and Omega Sports often have 20% off. (Omega's current ad: http://www.omegasports.net/category/omega-sports-ad/ ...and Inside-Out has a 20% coupon in Attractions Dining and Value Guide and a groupon at https://www.groupon.com/deals/inside-out-sports-2 costing $30 for $50 of shoes.)
Jeff H. replied:
Salepeople should be trained on the fit philosophy of the store. Some stores also have salespeople who run more than others, and turnover varies as well. I wouldn't buy from a store that didnt let me run outside with a shoe, and ask about the return policy. Lastly, in the long term I'd consider the community involvement of your running store; this last reason is why I try to buy locally rather than online, unless there is some killer sale going on. For all of these reasons I like Bull City best, even though there are others closer.
Ken P. replied:
Amanda Millard - Probably not. The fine print for the Groupon doesn't say, but the Attractions coupon says to present it, in person, at the Cary or Raleigh stores. Yet...I cannot imagine ordering on-line unless you are ordering the exact same shoe as one you have. I would want to try on the exact shoe I am buying as I have found two "identical" pairs to be just a little different. And if you can save a few bucks on-line...well, I say, unless you have to, don't! We want and need the local running stores to exist, so spending just a few dollars more (and that is all it is if you can get the promotions) isn't worth risking their existence.
Chris A. replied:
Go some place that will watch you run in store. Kerry at Fleet Feet in Raleigh is great and Brian at Run n Tri Outfitters in Wake Forest.
Ken P. replied:
Inside Out Sports does have on-line discounts at times. I've seen them at race expos. If that's what you want, check out a packet pickup--like at next weekend's Rex Wellnes Sprint Tri in Garner. Or, try this: Go to https://www.fsseries.com/rex-wellness-sprint-triathlon-garner and then click on "Event Deals" to see if it gives you an on-line code.
Keith S. replied:
