FYI, I just called Ellensburg Animal Hospital to offer non-specific help and was referred to call 509-607-9288 (Vicki?) where I received a voice mail that referred me to call the fairgrounds at 509-933-8236, which I tried but it was busy, so I'm not sure who is making lists of volunteers. I have a large metal dog crate that I can loan to the effort and can help out all day on Friday, maybe tomorrow. I live in Yakima and can also transport animals from E-burg to Yakima if some of the vets start boarding here.

For anyone with Labradors affected with LP, you might want to consider participating in the University of Wisconsin study - I am not sure where they are with it (developing a genetic test) or whether they are still looking for participants, but Murphy and I participated and they did follow up for a few years until he passed. Spokanimal is very reasonable which is why we go there plus they do good work which is why we use them for all our rescues. Make a day of it. Take your dog and go shopping and play in Spokane. LOL. We are Dachshund Rescue NW on Facebook and we have placed over 1200 homeless dogs now. I have used a lot of vets but these guys impress me. Takes a bit to impress me with vets and very reasonably priced which is why I refer them. I know a bit out of the way but worth it.

Call the chewelah vet they are wonderful there. 935-6424 also if you need assistance with spaying/neutering they can give you a phone number for a low income voucher :)

Spokanimal in Spokane at 509-534-8133 fixes all the dogs we have at our rescue since they opened their new vet clinic. They have fixed over 400 of our dogs here and nary a problem.

Hunters Vet Clinic downtown

I used to go to Fairwood in Wandermere for 8+ years for my pit mix, however I stopped going there when one of the vets literally word for word told me that she is only a vet for the money and doesn't care about animals and actually slid my new puppy back at me across the exam table. I started bawling because I seriously thought something was wrong with my dog. She wanted to take 4 X-ray pics for $300 and I asked her nicely (I'm not confrontational or rude at all) if they take payment plans and that was her response. Like listen lady no could have been enough, I even said I'd pay that price but told her I wouldn't come back because she had an attitude the whole time with me. I told my dad who takes his bullies there and he also stopped taking his dogs there. When I left the room crying (pregnant and just really scared sorry lol) one of the receptionists asked me what was wrong and I told her and she said "well gabbing to me isn't going to help anything." I now go to Garland Animal Clinic and Dr. Bo and Dr. Sorensen are literally amazing. You can tell their whole staff loves animals and their prices are much better, they also have a great new clinic 3 blocks from their old one. *not trying to argue about vets but anytime anyone asks for a vet rec I always tell my experience there because it saddens me. I went there for so long because I was used to that place and genuinely hadn't seen what a great vet is like until I switched.

The emergency on mission is great if you have an emergency but if it can wait I would call Dr Hunter on Washington St. I used to take our kitty's there... He is good, doesn't go overboard & inexpensive as far as vets go

Gonzaga's Vet Clinic on the new campus downtown. I have a little dog that was poked in the eye by a little kid, the eye turned grey and watered constantly. They saved the eye and were affordable...well...as affordable as vets can be. They have student Vets so I think that's why the rate was not to bad. There was an instructor in the room to verify the findings.

Hunter Vet clinic is a great clinic on Washington a couple blocks from the arena. I took my cats to the original Dr. Hunter when I lived in town.

We used to go to the animal hospital next to the Rockwood clinic on Sprague. They were great.

Mountain Vet, Dr. Leese. Love her. Our breeder uses her as well. The vet on Dishman Mica, All Creatures Vet Clinic, was very expensive when I used to take my puppies there and at the end of the day, they "clocked" out. Guess everyone has different experiences. Best of luck!

I am not a fan of Mountain Empire because they have a weird demand that you can't go into the room with your pet. I don't feel comfortable having such limited exposure to the vet. I LOVE Heart Arrow Vet Clinic. I have been using them for a few years, and they are wonderful. Not as expensive as the hospital, but more expensive than Mountain Empire. But very much worth it.

I like Valley Veterinary Clinic on Sprague east of Costco.

something for you to check on line about - most animal allergies are due to the food they are eating. even if it is the same they have had for years. don't know if is big or small dog, check out this brand - http://astore.amazon.com/lightside-20/detail/B0018CJJ9W -i know people who have dogs/cats that started suffering from flaky skin, swollen eyes and even seizures and this food helped or got rid of all symptoms. or - you go with a little of something like this and add your own rice (gotta be careful with which brand you get) and some chicken to make your own. it sounds like a lot but if your animal is like a family member, it really isn't a big deal. and you can do all the cooking of stuff ahead for the week. good luck

Luther McConnell at Animal Cinic of Spokane is the avian vet who once was at mt. spokane. he is in today but will not be in tomorrow.

Dr. Ponti! We have taken him multiple injured birds.

Mt. Spokane Veterinary Hospital is great. We go there and they take care of everything under the sun. Lizards to horses, and do an amazing avian rehabilitation program. They have owls all the time and have even had eagles there.

Garland Animal Clinic all the way. At least for our experiences.

I've always used Ponti out in Otis orchards. He's a ways away, but he's good.

They're both fine clinics and I would consider recommendations from real people to be better than anonymous reviews from the internet. In my experience, internet reviews are too weighted towards those who've had a bad experience or are simply unreasonable, unpleasant people. Most transactions we have with those providing services for us meet or exceed our expectations; as such, we don't devote the time to share that feedback with others. But when they don't meet our expectations, we take it personally and complain. We see a couple of bad reviews of a business and it skews our opinions, but we won't see the hundreds or thousands of good reviews because people were too lazy to write them. I'd pick whichever clinic is closer or more convenient, see how the experience goes, and evaluate from there. "Bed side manner" and personality are surprisingly more important than other criteria, IMO.

I use Five Mile for both of my dogs and me and my wife like them. We use doctor streeter (I think that's how you spell his last name). We used the older female vet once when he was not available and we weren't fans. It felt like she kept running test just to try and get money but that's just my opinion. So overall we love it, just not the one lady.

Deer Park has an AMAZING vet, beautiful building, low prices, great people and great reviews. Take our dog there. Just had full dental cleanings for 200 bucks versus our lowest quote in spokane was 470 on up. I love the Deer Park vet. Call them.

I originally used Garland Animal Clinic. While they did great work, are professional, and sincerely appeared to care for our dog, I always got the impression that they were trying to up-sell to us (makes sense, of course). Have since switched over Hunter Vet Clinic, which may not have as much curb appeal, but I never sense the up-sell. In fact, we once did a drop-in at Hunter for what we thought was ringworm on the pup - the vet took one look and said it was just a black fly bite. No charge. That experience keeps me coming back.

i took my dog to 5 Mile Pet Clinic for the first since moving into the area. they were very nice and they gave my dog some "donated pain meds" so we didnt have to pay for those! i havent been back yet, thankfully, but if my dog has any issues i would definitely go back to them!
