I work at a large, well-known hospital in Tampa. Dr. Bruce Edson was highly recommended to me by colleagues; I haven't actually made an appointment with him yet (I'm on SSRI's I've received through a walk-in clinic) but I plan to make an appointment with him to have someone regulate my meds. Good luck! I've dealt with panic attacks/anxiety/depersonalization since I was 16; it's not fun :(

Look up Counselor Barb. I forget her last name but she has a website, through 'tampa' into the Google search and you'll find her. He/she can probably call for a quick consult to see if she can help. I went to her for a couple of self esteem/depression issues and will say she is the best I've ever seen. Your friends issues may be outside her scope, but I think she's with a phone call to see.

[USF](http://psc.usf.edu/) offers counseling services and they have several areas of expertise. They offer much lower prices than you'd find elsewhere because they want to provide services for people who don't have insurance or can't afford therapy otherwise. I have a friend going there now and he says it's making a huge difference. There's a catch though; the only reason they're able to make their prices so low is because they record all of their sessions as learning material for their clinical psychology graduate students. It's not like your sessions would end up on the internet or anything, but I know some people aren't comfortable with being recorded.

Does it specifically need to be a psychiatrist? I ask because if your friend needs medication rather than counseling *first*, he/she can start by seeing his or her primary care physician for medication assistance. If your friend would prefer to speak to someone about their issues without the immediate need of a prescription medication, there are a lot more options. I'm happy to help with either potential referral if I'm able, but if you can clarify this first it will help me to narrow things down.

Oh I see... I would strongly suggest a psychologist who practices Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. It takes some work and some time, but has proven to be very successful as a long term solution to treating OCD/anxiety. I will help you look for a psychiatrist in your area. You have Aetna, right?
