I know several people who have happily worked with the Washburn Small Business Development Center: http://washburnsmallbusiness.com/. One aspect of them which I admire- they seek to empower the business owner to perform tasks for themselves (filings, marketing, etc.) as opposed to just doing the work for you. Can be frustrating, as with any learning, but the benefits are obvious.

Thank you Lara. I contacted them but they will not sell me a pattern until after the class is over when they can see if they have any patterns left over. This does not sound very promising. If I had Patti Hawkins contact information, I would contact her directly.

As posted before, regarding St. Louis Basketry. They probably purchased a number of patterns from Patti Hawkins for a class. After the class is over, and there are some left, they can sell or give it away.

Even though Patti Hawkins is no longer selling patterns, she still is the owner of the material in her patterns and copying and giving away or selling her patterns is against copyright laws. It is no different than is you bought an out of print book and wanted to copy it and sell it or give it away.

Please see my replies above - it is not legal to photocopy and give away or sell an out of print book that is still protected by copyright law and it is the same with a pattern. Patti Hawkins still holds the copyright on the pattern.

In this case by excerpting only parts of the article they omitted important safety precautions. As a rule of thumb, keep you excerpts short, and in small proportion to the original article content, and provide complete credit to the citation.

Patti Hawkins is no longer selling her patterns as far as I knew. She stopped many years ago which is why they are hard to come by.
